Spirit Halloween opened its first Montgomery county location at 30 Grand Corner Ave. in Gaithersburg’s Rio Lakefront in August this year. A second planned location is coming to Rockville and Spirit has just added a third Montgomery County location in Aspen Hill.

MoCo Athletics

2024 is not only an Olympic year, but also a World Championship year for the sport of Acrobatic Gymnastics. This summer at the 2024 USA Acrobatic Gymnastics National Championships and World Team Trials in Minneapolis (the same week and location of the Artistic Gymnastics Olympic Trials), USA Gymnastics selected two groups from Rockville’s Xtreme Acro to represent Team USA.

Events

Montgomery Parks is hosting a day of fun and fitness at the Wheaton Passport to Sports event at Wheaton Regional Park on September 8, 2024 from 11am-3pm. Coaches will be on hand to give pointers as participants try various fitness activities at the park, including pickleball, tennis, ice skating, ice hockey and field sports.


Crime

The Takoma Park Police Department has offered burglary prevention tips. Takoma Park Police writes, “These tips are not intended to scare or frighten anyone, however, crime is a fact of life everywhere.  As partners, we can discourage criminals from targeting certain areas.  We can make it hard for them. Let’s make a difference together.  Let’s demonstrate to the criminals that we are putting them on notice that they will be caught!” The tips can be seen below:

Briggs Chaney

Pizza Hut has officially returned to the Briggs Chaney Shopping Center, opening its newest location at the Briggs Chaney Center (13884 Old Columbia Pike). The pizza chain previously had a larger, freestanding location in the shopping center for many years before it closed in 2017. The building was demolished and a new Popeyes restaurant opened in its place in 2021.

Maryland

Federal Realty has announced that Rockville’s Bao Bei will open at Montrose Crossing in Rockville. What began as a “ghost kitchen” (a restaurant without dining space and no visible storefront, where food is typically sold through third party delivery apps) in 2022, Bao Bei features a variety of Taiwanese street food dishes from baos to hearty bowls, side dishes and more. Chef Kevin Hsieh, a 2013 graduate of Gaithersburg High School, curates a dining experience that preserves tradition and offers authentic Taiwanese flavors.
