Magruder High School graduate Bongani Ndebele was recently named a Transform Mid-Atlantic Civic Fellow at George Washington University. Ndebele, was one of two students named fellows for their leadership on campus and propensity to create change both at the university and in Washington, D.C.

Last year, our very own “Mr. MoCo” released a list of his favorite steak and cheese subs in Montgomery County. This past weekend, The MoCoShow as a whole released its list of the Top 5 cheesesteaks in Philadelphia, and it coincided with the release of the “Mr. MoCo Cheesesteak” that is now available for a limited time only at SOKO Butcher (7306 Carroll Avenue, Takoma Park, MD). Education

The 2024 high school commencement season is set to begin on Wednesday, May 29, and will end Wednesday, June 12. Graduation ceremonies will take place on individual high school campuses, at DAR Constitution Hall in Washington, D.C., and on the campuses of Mount St. Mary’s University and the University of Maryland, Baltimore County. More than 11,000 students are expected to receive their diplomas. The ceremonies will include an array of commencement speakers, including TV reporters, politicians, educators, MCPS staff members and others.

DC Sports

The Washington Spirit and ESPN 630 will team up to broadcast 13 regular season matches in the Spirit’s first-ever radio partnership, the club announced today. The partnership will begin on Saturday, May 18 when the Washington Spirit faces Angel City FC and will extend throughout the 2024 season. Match audiocasts will stream live directly to WashingtonSpirit.com, as well as the ESPN 630 app and website.

Maryland

New legislation (Bill HB 0216), sponsored by Maryland State Delegate, Lorig Charkoudian, Ph.D., and Maryland State Senator, William C. Smith Jr., has been passed and introduces new amendments to the Maryland Condo Act. Under the Maryland Condo Act, Bill HB 0216 will allow condominium board of directors to grant leases of more than one year for the installation and use of leased clean energy equipment. This new legislation will make it easier for condo associations in Maryland to approve leases for clean energy equipment, such as electric vehicle recharging equipment, solar energy equipment, and energy storage systems.
