Update: Dollar Tree signs on to move into the space 

The Staples store located in Germantown, MD, at 20906 Frederick Road STE A, is set to permanently close its doors on Thursday, August 29th. A store manager confirmed the impending closure, which marks the end of an era for the office supply retailer.


Maryland

Governor Wes Moore announced a $2 million initiative through the Maryland Energy Administration’s Residential and Commercial Energy Storage Program that will provide rebates to cover the purchase and installation of battery energy storage systems, aiming to lower electricity costs, improve grid resilience, and expand clean energy use for residents and businesses statewide.

MCDOT

Per MCDOT: “The Montgomery County Department of Transportation (MCDOT) is hosting an in-person public meeting on the US 29 Flash Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) Phase 2 project on Thursday, Aug. 28, followed by a Corridor Advisory Committee (CAC) meeting

There will be two parts to this meeting. The first hour of the meeting will be a public meeting focused on bicycle and pedestrian facilities. The topics, presentation and interactive feedback activities will be the same as the June meeting. The second hour of the meeting will be the CAC meeting, which will focus on the preliminary design of the Flash BRT facilities on the corridor. Both portions of the meeting are open to the public and people are encouraged to attend.

With a year of community college nearly three times less expensive than a year at a public four-year college, the personal-finance company WalletHub today released its report on 2025’s Best & Worst Community Colleges, coupled with its state-by-state ranking of the Best & Worst Community-College Systems, and Maryland came in ranked as the state with the “Best Community College System” in the country.

Beyond MoCo

Updated with the latest information from the Queen Anne’s County Sheriff’s Office

On August 11, 2025, at approximately 6:00 p.m., deputies of the Queen Anne’s County Office of the Sheriff, assigned to the 4H Fair in Centreville, MD, were alerted to an attempted kidnapping. The Sheriff’s Office and QAC Fair Board emergency response plan was immediately activated, and deputies quickly saturated the area.
