Gaithersburg

Construction continues to progress at The Carnegie at Washingtonian, a Kisco Senior Living Center, that will feature a seven-story complex with 302 one and two bedroom floorpans for independent living and memory care residences next to Life Time in Gaithersburg.

The groundbreaking of The Carnegie at Washingtonian Center was last October, but the work has been a lot more visible with the addition of the cranes a few months back. Situated on 8.5 acres beside RIO Lakefront at Washingtonian Center, The Carnegie is set to welcome residents in the spring of 2024.

Crime

Former Montgomery County Council Candidate, Ruthann Aron, was denied by the Court of Special Appeals her attempt to overturn her previous conviction for solicitation to commit murder, after attempting to hire a hitman to kill her husband and another man in 1997. Aron moved to Maryland in the 1970s with her husband and two children. While here, she acquired a law degree at Catholic University and became a real estate developer. She was later on the Montgomery County Planning Board.

Ruthann Aron was was arrested in June 1997 for attempting to hire a hitman. She approached William Mossberg, the owner of a local landfill, who immediately went to the police and worked with them to catch Aron attempting to hire the hitman to kill her husband- a urologist named Barry Aron, and another man- Arthur Khan, a lawyer who prosecuted a fraud case against Ruthann Aron and testified against her at a later slander trial stemming from a run for U.S. Senator from Maryland in 1994, which she lost the Republican nomination to former Tennessee Senator Bill Brock (who later lost to Paul Sarbanes).

Restaurants

Back in December 2021, we let you know that Hangry Joe’s would be coming to the 1,600 sf location that was previously home to El Mexicano at 10050 Darnestown Road, between Pholuscious and Tropical Smoothie Cafe in the Travilah Square Shopping Center. Since then, a Wheaton location was announced and has already opened, and upcoming locations on Rockville Pike and Gaithersburg have been announced.

Signage was recently erected at the upcoming Rockville Pike restaurant, which will be located next to Roy Rogers at 718-B Rockville Pike. The restaurant is expected to open later this year. As of now, we don’t have a location for the upcoming Gaithersburg restaurant, but we have been told that the announcement is coming soon.

The Montgomery County Board of Education approved the following administrative appointments, effective July 1st:

Business

The 3,200 SF building that was formerly home to Capital One bank at 9761 Traville Gateway Drive is being marketed as a potential site for a standalone restaurant, according to the brochure for leasing at the shopping center. The bank opened in February of 2003 and closed a few years back. The building has remained vacant ever since. According to renderings (seen below) for what the building would look like after a restaurant moves in, there is space for a patio with plenty of outdoor seating and the bank columns would remain.

Anyone interested in opening a restaurant at a slightly bigger location, that previously housed a restaurant and wouldn’t require as much work, could look a few feet away at 9755 Traville Gateway Drive- the 4,840 SF building that was previously home to Nantucket’s Reef.  Potential tenants would be able to join longer tenured restaurant tenants like Bageltowne Deli, Cava Mezze, and Potomac Pizza, or restaurants that are newer to the neighborhood like BB.Q Chicken and Klay Healthy Indian Eats.

King Farm

Rockville tradition, the city’s annual Independence Day celebration, returns to King Farm on Monday, July 4 with music, fireworks, food and fun (other Montgomery County celebrations can be found here).

Hosted by the Mayor and Council, the celebration will once again be held at the 26-acre Mattie J.T. Stepanek Park, 1800 Piccard Drive, in King Farm, which offers easy access and ample free parking, with convenient exits within a short walk of the fireworks viewing areas.

Rockville

Rockville will hold a virtual forum on Town Center, 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, June 28.

Rockville Town Center comprises about 200 acres of the city, generally bounded by properties along Fleet Street to the south, South and North Washington streets along the west, and the railroad tracks to the east. The forum, which is open to the community, will discuss and solicit feedback on:
