Per WMATA: As people across the region prepare to celebrate the Independence Day holiday, Metro is also preparing to get people to and from July Fourth activities and fireworks. Trains will operate regular weekday service on all lines, with supplemental service on the Red Line and trains positioned throughout the system to provide extra capacity when needed. 

Downtown where stations are served by multiple lines, as well as the Red Line, trains will arrive every 6-8 minutes. Off-peak fares will be in effect and parking will be free at all Metro parking facilities and garages.


Gaithersburg

It’s time to get outside & rise up for Gaithersburg Parks, Recreation & Culture. Since 1985, America has celebrated July as Park & Recreation Month. A program of the National Recreation & Park Association (NRPA), the goal is to raise awareness of the vital impact that parks & recreation have on communities across the U.S.

The Mayor & City Council will proclaim July as Parks and Recreation Month in the City at their meeting on July 5. The proclamation reminds Gaithersburg residents of the importance of parks & recreation facilities, programs, staff, and volunteers while encouraging everyone to embrace active lifestyles & improve their overall health.


North Bethesda

A driver lost control of their vehicle for unknown reasons just before 7:30pm this evening and drove into Tiger Sugar, a bubble tea shop located at 12266E in Federal Plaza, according to witness reports.

There is major damage to the storefront, and witnesses tell us the driver was transported to the hospital with minor injuries. We are told a customer inside the store was also struck by either the vehicle or debris, but was uninjured.


Gaithersburg

Nearly three years after it was first announced, Burtons Grill & Bar, at 109 Commerce Square Pl in Gaithersburg’s Kentlands neighborhood, is now officially open. The restaurant’s opening was delayed several years by the COVID-19 pandemic and later supply chain issues.  The 5,000 square foot restaurant will serve lunch and dinner and has seating capacity for 196 patrons, including a 106 seat dining room, 44-seat bar, and an outdoor patio that seats 46.  Menu items will include braised short ribs, filet mignon, chicken risotto, and market fresh seafood.

In a press release,  President and Chief Operating Officer of Burtons Grill & Bar John Haggai said, “Following all of the success we’ve had in the past year with the Burton’s Grill & Bar brand, we are thrilled to be opening another restaurant, even more so because of its location in Kentlands Market Square. We’re excited to be opening a second location for our loyal customers in the state of Maryland.”  The restaurant will be open Sunday and Monday from 11:30am-9pm, Tuesday through Thursday from 11:30am-10pm, and Friday and Saturday from 11:30am-11pm.


Beyond MoCo

Thompson Hospitality Group, which is behind restaurants like Matchbox (Bethesda, Rockville, and Silver Spring locations in MoCo), Willie T’s Seafood Shack (coming soon to MoCo), Austin Grill and American Tap Room (both previously in MoCo), and more, has finalized an agreement this week to acquire all four area Wiseguy locations (Chinatown, Navy Yard, Rosslyn, and Pentagon City), according to Eater DC.

The Wiseguy Pizza brand is an exceptional compliment to our ever-growing restaurant portfolio. We’re excited to grow and evolve this brand with Nuri while staying true to the magic that made Wiseguy Pizza what it is today.” Thompson Hospitality Group posted on social media over the weekend.


Downtown Silver Spring

A Nike Unite store is coming to Downtown Silver Spring, taking over the location that was formerly home to DSW Designer Shoe Warehouse location at 910 Ellsworth Drive, according to a report by Source of the Spring. We spoke with an employee Nike Unite store in Fairfax, VA, which opened on May 26th, who told us that the Silver Spring location is expected to open later this year, but did not have a specific date.

An employee at the Nike Unite store told us that the pricing and products offered at a Unite store are similar to that of a Nike Factory store (often found at outlets), with a slightly different layout and a specific return section for items purchased on Nike.com. East County

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) were called to the scene of a collision that caused a vehicle to roll over onto its roof a little before 9:45pm on Sunday night in the area of Stravinsky Terrace and Brahms Avenue in the Fairland area, according to MCFRS Chief Spokesperson Pete Piringer.

Units arrived to find one adult trapped inside the overturned vehicle and were able to extricate the person before transporting the adult to the hospital with Pri2 Trauma (serious, but non-life threatening injuries). Brahms Avenue and Mozart Drive were blocked in both directions for a couple hours Sunday night, but reopened by early Monday morning.

With 84% of Americans planning to celebrate the 4th of July this year and collective food spending for the holiday to reach $7.7 billion, the personal-finance website WalletHub today released its report on 2022’s Best & Worst Places for 4th of July Celebrations to go along with interesting stats about the holiday in its 4th of July Facts & Figures, infographic and 4th of July Survey. Washington D.C. came in as the 3rd best place to celebrate 4th of July on this list, ranking in the Top 10 in 3 different categories- Fourth of July Celebrations, Attractions & Activities, and Safety & Accessibility.  For those of you looking for celebrations right here in MoCo, here is a list of celebrations within the county.

The HealthWell Foundation®, an independent non-profit that provides a financial lifeline for inadequately insured Americans that’s based in Germantown, has enhanced its homocystinuria fund to also provide financial assistance to patients living with organic acidemia. Through the Homocystinuria and Organic Acidemias Fund, HealthWell will provide up to $5,000 in copayment or premium assistance to eligible patients with annual household incomes up to 500 percent of the federal poverty level to obtain prescription medications for the treatment and management of their condition.

Per the press release: Kathy Stagni, Executive Director, Organic Acidemia Association, said, “OAA is honored to provide a financial contribution to support broadening this fund to include organic acidemias. Those living with the condition can be faced with a multitude of symptoms including breathing difficulties, vomiting, slow growth, and lethargy. Organic acidemia may also lead to neurological and physiological harm resulting in toxicity to organs. If undiagnosed and left untreated, the condition can be fatal. Accessing proper care and the ability to afford continued treatment are obstacles that many patients face. We applaud the HealthWell Foundation for recognizing this unmet need and for providing the financial resources these patients need to access lifesaving treatments.”

Institutional Property Advisors (IPA), a division of Marcus & Millichap (NYSE: MMI), announced on Thursday the sale of Gaitherstowne Plaza located in Gaithersburg. The 71,329-square-foot shopping center is 100% leased and sold for $24.45 million. Gaitherstowne Plaza also boasts an average tenant tenure of over 10 years and is home to IHOP, AutoZone and more.

Per the press release: Gaitherstowne Plaza is a 71,329-square-foot shopping center and is 100% leased. The average tenure of tenants at the property is over 10 years and the roster includes national brands Gabe’s, AutoZone, Sherwin Williams and IHOP on an outparcel. “This is a generational acquisition as there are a limited number of transactions in esteemed Montgomery County, which is ranked as the nation’s fifth-wealthiest county by Bloomberg,” noted Dean Zang, IPA executive managing director.


Olney

The housing market exploded last year and the trend has continued halfway through 2022. 18632 Woodgate Place, a 7 bedroom, 8 bathroom, 5,915 SF home in Olney, was listed at $2,499,000– and it ended up selling for $2,175,000, making it the highest priced residential listing in Olney history (photos below).

The home beat the previous Olney record of $2,066,986 for 16672 Bridle Ridge Lane, which sold in 2019. The Bridle Ridge house is a Toll Brothers home with 11,182 SF living space with 5 car garage on just over half an acre (0.55 acre), according to our real estate expert Nurit Coombe.
