According to the Montgomery County State’s Attorney’s Office, Javier Reyes, 23, of Silver Spring was sentenced to 50 years in prison suspending all but 30 to serve and five years of supervised probation upon release. Reyes was convicted by a jury in December on charges of second-degree felony murder and use of a handgun in a crime of violence for the death of 20-year-old Walter Woods of Takoma Park. (more…)

ISAAC’S Poultry Market has announced that its second location at 15785 Old Columbia Pike in Burtonsville will open today, Thursday, February 20, at 10:45 a.m. The opening was initially delayed due to a partial power outage, but the issue has been resolved.

The Montgomery County Students Automotive Trades Foundation will host a Refurbished Car and Computer Sale on Saturday, February 22, at Damascus High School. Attorney General Anthony G. Brown announced that Rashad Jajuan Harrison, 34, of Baltimore, was convicted of a felony theft scheme for fraudulently obtaining $82,116.27 in state funds through the Child and Adult Care Food Program. Harrison, who submitted false reimbursement claims on behalf of his nonprofit, was sentenced to five years of supervised probation and ordered to pay restitution.
Governor Wes Moore announced the 2025 Green Bag Appointments, nominating 297 individuals to Maryland’s boards and commissions, with a focus on diversity and representation, pending Senate confirmation. Montgomery Park’s Acoustics & Ales series will return on March 8, 2025, and will feature live music from Barleyjuice Trio, craft beverages from local breweries, and a variety of food trucks at North Four Corners Local Park in Silver Spring. The free outdoor event is open to all ages, with attendees encouraged to bring their own snacks, blankets, and lawn chairs.
