The Montgomery County Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) is encouraging residents to find alternatives to single-use plastics during “Plastic Free July.” According to the Plastic Free Foundation, the month-long event is a “global movement that helps millions of people be part of the solution to plastic pollution – so we can have cleaner streets, oceans, and beautiful communities.”

Montgomery County has announced that its Fiscal Year 2024 Resident and Community Food Gardening Grant Program recently awarded $200,000 to seven community-based organizations. These grants support initiatives aimed at expanding local food production, and access to gardening and small-scale farming and over 1,800 residents are expected to participate in these funded programs. Montgomery County Police has released additional information regarding the death of Osmar Daniel Chavarria, who was killed after an incident involving the contractor bucket he was in making contact with power lines on Tuesday, July 9 in Ashton.
