Maryland State Police Aviation Command took flight Tuesday evening and rescued a young woman after her car plunged off a cliff in West Virginia.

Montgomery County Police and Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services responded to an incident Wednesday evening in Derwood. According to MCPD, “At approximately 8 p.m., MCP officers responded to the area of East Gude Drive and Crabbs Branch Way for the report of a pedestrian that was struck by a vehicle.
Officers arrived at the scene and determined that a pedestrian was not struck by a vehicle. Officers located a juvenile female in distress. The mother of the juvenile female arrived at the scene and assaulted officers. The juvenile female was transported to an area hospital for an Emergency Evaluation Petition.
Per Montgomery County: The Wheaton Arts Parade organization, which is constantly expanding its range of activities, will sponsor two upcoming events including a guided tour of its artists “pyramids” that are placed around Brookside Gardens in Wheaton on Saturday, Aug. 12, and a “Yarn Bomb” at the Wheaton Library on Sunday, Aug. 13, that will lead to decorating the Wheaton area in creations of knitted and crocheted works.
The “Guided Garden Tour of Pyramids” will be part of pop up art activities at Brookside Gardens from 9 a.m.-noon on Aug. 12. Brookside Gardens is located at 1800 Glenallan Ave. in Wheaton.
Per Montgomery County: The Third Annual Montgomery County Children’s Business Fair will return to Rockville Town Center from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 19, to display the works and ideas of more than 55 young entrepreneurs. The event is free to attend and open to the public.
The fair is back after a three-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 health crisis. The event was founded Tameka Montgomery of the Raising Entrepreneurs Podcast and a senior executive at the U.S. Small Business Administration.
Per Montgomery County: A free online home buying seminar sponsored by the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of Montgomery County will be held from 4:30-5:30 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 17. The seminar will be led by Bill Rozek from Embrace Home Loans.
Mr. Rozek will cover many topics that could lead to getting approved to purchase a home.
Per Montgomery County: Montgomery County’s Community Action Board (CAB) is now accepting applications to participate in its free, eight-month Community Advocacy Institute (CAI) training program that teaches participants how to effectively advocate for policy change. Applications are due Friday, Aug. 18.
The board is the governing body for the Community Action Agency (CAA), Montgomery County’s Federally designated anti-poverty agency. The CAA is part of the County’s Department of Health and Human Services.
Legendary Blues and Roots band, The Nighthawks, headline final Parks Playhouse Series event for 2023
Per Montgomery Parks: Montgomery Parks is ending the current season of Parks Playhouse on a high note with a week of events in August, culminating with a concert by The Nighthawks on Friday, August 18, at Cabin John Regional Park.
“It’s been a great season filled with over 30 performances this summer between Parks Playhouse and Parks Playhouse Junior,” says Michael Coppersmith, director of Montgomery Parks Activation Program. “We are excited to close out the summer season with The Nighthawks before heading into fall.”
Bento Express opened earlier this summer in the Woodmoor Shopping Center at 10141 Colesville Road in Silver Spring. The fast-casual restaurant is located in the space that was formerly home to Sprint, between the UPS Store and Subway. Menu items include teryaki (chicken, beef, shrimp, & salmon), bento boxes, poke bowls, dumplings, and a variety of sushi rolls.

Adam Greenberg, owner of Potomac Pizza, has announced the acquisition of Hunter’s Bar and Grill at 10123 River Rd in the Potomac Village Shopping Center. The restaurant opened as the Hunter’s Inn in 1978 and rebranded to Hunter’s Bar & Grill in 2014. Greenberg’s team plans to maintain a majority of Hunter’s menu offerings and will add their own twist by improving current recipes and experimenting with new items based on customer feedback. Adam Greenberg, the restaurateur behind Potomac Pizza, Bagels ‘n Grinds, and College Park Grill, today announced the acquisition of Hunter’s Bar and Grill, located at 10123 River Road in Potomac, MD. Hunter’s Bar and Grill first opened as Hunter’s Inn in 1978, the same year the original Potomac Pizza opened, changing its name to Hunter’s Bar and Grill in 2014 under longtime owners Fred and Murray Berman’s leadership.
The state had 26 third-tier winners of at least $10,000 during this jackpot run that started on April 21. There have been over 1 million winning tickets sold in Maryland during that time. More than $56.5 million in sales occurred during the roll, and based on approximately 25% of sales being returned to the state, the profit to the Maryland General Fund from those sales was about $14.5 million. The last Maryland jackpot win came in March 2014, when Maryland and Florida players split a $414 million jackpot. That winning ticket was sold at Lady’s Liquors in La Plata. Babycat Brewery at 10241 Kensington Pkwy in Kensington is partnering with the Kensington Volunteer Fire Department (KVFD) for the release of its newest ale, Station 5’s Red. According to Babycat, the “gorgeous Red Ale” is 5.5% ABV with malty sweet notes and touches of cherry and toffee. The beer goes on tap at the brewery on Thursday, August 10 and $1 of each pint sold will go to support the KVFD Station 5.
