Beyond MoCo

Per the Maryland State Police: Maryland State Police have arrested two people who were indicted Monday on charges associated with the deaths of six highway construction workers following a fatal pedestrian crash that occurred on March 22, 2023 on Interstate 695 in Baltimore County.

Lisa Adrienne Lea, 54, of Randallstown, Maryland, has been indicted on six counts of manslaughter, six counts of negligent homicide, six counts of causing the death of a vulnerable individual while operating a motor vehicle, driving under the influence, conducting an unsafe lane change, speeding, failure to control speed to avoid a collision, following a vehicle too closely, negligent driving and aggressive driving. She surrendered this morning at the Maryland State Police Golden Ring Barrack, where she is being processed.


Rockville

Per the City of Rockville: The city is seeking comments about a study of the intersection of Fleet Street and Wootton Parkway.

The intersection is one of five where city staff recently completed safety audits and is proposing improvements, to be made this summer and fall, to address crashes. Staff evaluated traffic patterns; pedestrian, bicycle and vehicle counts; crash history; and intersection geometry. Improving intersections and crossings are key action items in the city’s Vision Zero Action Plan to eliminate traffic-related deaths and serious injuries.


Gaithersburg

Funes was last seen on Wednesday, May 31, at a residence in Flower Hill.   Funes is approximately 5-feet, 4-inches tall and weighs approximately 180 lbs. Funes has a lily flower tattoo on her right shoulder. Funes was wearing a black tank top shirt, blue jeans, black sandals and was carrying a light green handbag.   Police and family are concerned for her welfare.

Anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of Funes is asked to call the police non-emergency number at (301) 279-8000 (24-hour line). Callers may remain anonymous.


Health

The Maryland Department of the Environment is advising Marylanders to expect unhealthy air conditions today through at least Thursday as smoke and fine particles produced from the wildfires continue to spread over the region. Air quality is currently at unhealthy levels for everyone. Marylanders should consider limiting time spent outdoors and avoid prolonged or heavy exertion until air quality improves. Anyone sensitive to air pollution, including young children, older adults, people with respiratory problems such as asthma, or people with heart conditions should avoid outdoor exertion altogether.  People who must be outside, such as outdoor workers, should be alert for symptoms such as difficulty breathing.  Air quality information is always available at mde.maryland.gov.

The Maryland Department of Health is advising Marylanders to follow the Air Quality Action Guide, which includes information on preventing adverse effects of polluted air. For a red alert, everyone should limit strenuous outdoor activity when the air is unhealthy to breathe.


MCPD

Per MCPD: Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police – 5th District Investigative Section are asking for the public’s assistance in locating Dae’Lon Thomas, a missing 24-year-old from Montgomery Village.

Dae’Lon was last seen on Wednesday, June 7, 2023, in the area of the Thomas Choice Condominiums in Montgomery Village.  Dae’Lon is approximately 6-feet, 1-inch tall. It is unknown what clothing he was last seen wearing. Police and family are concerned for his welfare.


MCPS

Athletics will operate under guidelines similar to heat index warnings, which include primarily indoor activities and increased monitoring of athletes. Field trips may need to be rescheduled or modified depending on the location and extent of outdoor activity. Adjustments could be made to outdoor graduations and will be communicated by individual schools.


MCFRS

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) responded to the scene of a vehicle into a building in the 500 blk of E Gude Dr in Rockville (Peter’s Grill) on Wednesday, May 7 around 7:30pm.

According to Assistant Chief with MCFRS David Pazos, two adults with non-life threatening injuries are being transported to local hospitals. Montgomery Village

Dunkin’ Donuts is now open at at 20000 Goshen Rd. (former Capital One Bank building) in the Goshen Crossing Shopping Center in Montgomery Village. While the store is now open for business, we’re told Dunkin’ will hold its official grand opening/ribbon cutting on Saturday, July 8, in which Dunkin’ typically gives away free coffee for one year to the first 100 guests.

Dunkin’ has been making a big push lately in Montgomery County, with its newest location at the Layhill Center (14328 Layhill Rd) in Silver Spring. Dunkin’ also has upcoming locations in Rockvilleand Chevy Chase. Since Inspire Brands acquired Dunkin’ and Baskin Robbins in late 2020 for $11.3 billion, the company has been opening in former bank locations that allow for easy installation of a drive-thru window. Dunkin has also aimed for non-traditional development that includes opening in airports and on college campuses, including the University of Maryland.


Highways / Interstates

Update: All travel lanes have reopened on I-270 after a police incident closed local lanes at Falls Road on Wednesday, June 7. According to Rockville Police, “Around 11:00 a.m. this morning RCPD officers responded to the Northbound exit Ramp at Falls Road for the report of an individual threatening to jump. Out of an abundance of caution, the northbound local lanes were closed down as well as the exit ramp. After about two hours of successful negations, the individual willingly agreed to be taken into police custody and transported for medical assistance. All lanes of traffic have been reopened.”


Crime

The investigation by detectives has revealed that on Saturday, July 23, 2022, the suspect entered the store, pointed a handgun at the employees and demanded money. The suspect removed an undisclosed amount of money from the registers and left the scene.
