This morning the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, the 1973 ruling that stated that women had a constitutional right to an abortion. Abortion bans are now expected in up to 26 states (not including Maryland.) Below  are reactions from several Montgomery County elected officials:

“The Council stands united in the belief that a person’s right to make their own decisions about their healthcare deserves the highest level of constitutional protection, and a politicized Supreme Court should not choose to curb or restrict the constitutional rights of citizens.

Silver Spring

Oak View Elementary is located at 400 East Wayne Ave. in Silver Spring.   The meeting is open to the public and questions are permitted during the question-and-answer portion of the meeting. The Purple Line will be a 16-mile light rail line that will extend from Bethesda in Montgomery County to New Carrollton in Prince George’s County. It will provide a direct connection to the Metrorail Red, Green and Orange Lines at Bethesda, Silver Spring, College Park, and New Carrollton. The Purple Line also will connect to MARC, Amtrak and local bus services. The revised planned completion date is 2026.

MDOT MTA has been holding planning community meetings, open houses and Community Advisory Meetings to give residents updates on the Purple Line. Additional information is available on the project’s website at  purplelinemd.com/upcoming-meetings.

“The members of the Montgomery County Council express our disappointment and deep frustration at the Supreme Court’s ruling today, which struck down a common-sense gun safety law at a time when gun violence is devastating and traumatizing communities nationwide.

“The solution to this epidemic of gun violence is not more guns on the streets.

Rockville

MCPS

One of my top three priorities is rebuilding community trust in MCPS. Relationship building is a two-way endeavor, and these events mark an important step towards upholding our commitment to a strong, trusting relationship, as we collectively work on behalf of the awesome students we are honored to serve. MCPS can be of better service to you if we know each other–if we know and understand the issues of greatest importance to our community. I am committed to transparency and responsiveness as we work to address our challenges and celebrate our many strengths. I am all in for our students, their families and our MCPS staff; I am excited about the conversations we’ve had and those that we have in the future.

We captured your feedback during our recent engagement sessions and you can see it reflected in this document. Your feedback covers a variety of interests, and each item will be examined to identify areas where we can make important improvements or adjustments that will serve students and staff. We spoke with one another about mental health, school safety, staffing concerns, operating budgets, special education student services and so much more. While community feedback is part of my commitment to informing our work, we have to ensure that any resulting action or decision fully supports students, staff and excellence in MCPS. Students First is my commitment to every family across the district.
