Man Arrested After Incident Near Residence of Justice Brett Kavanugh, Governor Hogan Releases Statement

According to Montgomery County Police, at 1:42 a.m. MCPD responded to a call for service in the area of Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh’s home in Chevy Chase. An adult male from California was taken into custody and transported to a Montgomery County police station. The case was then transferred to the FBI. The Washington Post reports that the man was angry over the recently leaked Supreme Court draft decision that would overturn Roe V. Wade.

The suspect is described as being in his mid-20s, and according to the WaPo article was taken into custody by police “after telling officers he wanted to kill the justice” and that “he apparently did not make it onto Kavanaugh’s property in Montgomery County but was stopped on a nearby street and was found to be carrying a gun, a knife and burglary tools, these people said, speaking on the condition of anonymity to discuss an ongoing investigation.”

Montgomery County to Host 12th Annual County Senior Safety Forum; Will Offer Virtual and Live Streamed Sessions at County Senior Centers

This year’s forum is a series of informative and fun live streamed sessions discussing ‘Staying Connected Safely.’ Each session includes active audience participation through music, yoga, meditation, and question and answer opportunities. Residents can participate in each session virtually, or at in-person viewing parties hosted at County senior centers.

“We want to make sure that we are a community where people of all ages can thrive and learn,” said County Executive Marc Elrich. “We have a growing older adult population, and we are pleased to host our Senior Safety Forum to provide the tools residents need to stay safe,” “More than 3.5 million older adults are cheated out of more than $3 billion each year at an average loss of $34,200. This is unacceptable. I encourage older residents to attend the forum to help them learn to identify scams, protect their identity, and learn how to report this predatory behavior. Prevention is paramount when it comes to protecting the livelihood of our older adult residents.”

Silver Spring Man Arrested in Connection With May 14 Shooting at Metro Station

Jordan Jones, 24, of Silver Spring, has been arrested in connection with the May 14 shooting at the Sarbanes Transit Center in Silver Spring, according to Metro Transit Police. MTPD tweeted Tuesday morning that officers spotted Jones at the U St Station and apprehended him without incident. He is being charged with 1st Degree Assault (Gun).

Montgomery County Police Suspends Assistant Police Chief Carmen Facciolo

From a June 2021 article: “Assistant Chief Facciolo joins the Montgomery County Police Department from the Bronx District Attorney’s Office where he served as a Deputy Chief overseeing the Strategic Enforcement and Intergovernmental Relations Division. In this role, Assistant Chief Facciolo directed all intelligence and crime strategies efforts, technical investigations including crime scene, photo, cell-site analysis, and digital forensics, forensic science services, strategic technology, the planning and analysis unit, and the alternatives to incarceration bureau. Assistant Chief Facciolo served as District Attorney Clark’s liaison to federal, state, and local law enforcement, forensics, and intelligence agencies, and managed her relationships with federal and state elected officials, local legislators, The Hill, and stakeholder organizations. Lastly, Assistant Chief Facciolo coordinated the county’s response to major law enforcement incidents, the opioid epidemic and mental health and crisis intervention services.

Before joining the Bronx District Attorney’s Office, Assistant Chief Facciolo served as a senior policy advisor with the U.S. Department of Justice’s Office of Justice Program. He was the primary architect of many national programs for the federal government including the Body-Worn Camera Program, intelligence for law enforcement, human trafficking taskforces, mental health crisis responses and homicide and forensic investigations.

Silver Spring Wings and District Teriyaki to Open This Summer

Silver Spring Wings has announced it will be opening up a new location this summer in the Wheaton Urban District. According to owner Evan Walton, Silver Spring Wings will also be sharing a space with its sister brand, District Teriyaki. He plans to announce more information, including the exact location and opening date, in the the next couple of weeks. Walton tells us, “I’m super excited to serve Moco again. It’s been a long stressful year and a half but I’m committed to my work and this community.”

Walton started Silver Spring Wings in 2020 around the start of the pandemic after all of his catering business events were suddenly cancelled. He decided to launch several food concepts out of his catering kitchen to attempt to make up for the loss and keep his employees.

Montgomery County Executive Elrich and Council Vice President Glass Join LGBTQ+ Leaders to Commemorate Pride Month with Flag Raising Ceremony in Rockville

Our diversity makes us stronger as a County and as a community. Update on OTC Bar & Grille in Olde Towne Gaithersburg

The OTC Bar & Grille in Olde Towne Gaithersburg has announced it is now hiring and will be opening this summer. OTC Bar & Grille is being opened by the owners of the Olde Towne Cafe at 226 E Diamond Ave, who have owned the business since 2000. It is located in the former Olde Towne Cafe restaurant space, as well as the adjacent space that was previously home to Diamond Drugs. Last year the owners knocked down the wall that separates the two locations to create the new restaurant/bar space.

Governor Hogan Announces $7.5 Million in Accountability Resources Grant Funding Available Through Re-Fund the Police Initiative

“This critical investment in public safety supports officers and law enforcement agencies by offering protection and increasing capacity to build trust in the communities they serve,” said Governor Hogan. “We will continue to provide this much-needed support through our Re-Fund The Police Initiative as we work together to make our communities safer and stronger.”

As part of the $24 million Accountability Resources Fund, the PACT grant supports law enforcement agencies across the state in developing effective accountability procedures while enhancing community relations and transparency. Funds are intended to increase safety and training for law enforcement, to promote safe communities, and to encourage engagement between law enforcement and the community.

Maryland State Police Warn Public Of Online Scam Involving The Sexual Extortion Of Minors

Investigators believe online predators may often give the impression they are romantically interested in the minor being targeted, to gain their trust. As the chats progress, the suspect user will request sexually illicit photographs of the minor, and might even send photographs back to the minor in return.

If a minor sends a sexually illicit photograph of themselves to the suspect account, the suspect user will proceed to demand the minor send them money, typically in the form of gift card and prepaid credit card numbers that are readily available at most stores. The suspect accounts advise that if money is not sent, the illicit photographs of the minor will be sent to family, friends, and posted online accompanied by distasteful comments about the minor. While not always, investigators have found that the suspect accounts typically originate from foreign countries which significantly limits the ability to formally identify a suspect.

Members Sought for New Montgomery County ‘Building Performance Improvement Board,’ with Applications Due Friday, June 10

“Passing BEPS was critical toward meeting our Climate Action Plan goals of reducing 100 percent of our greenhouse gas emissions by 2035,” said County Executive Elrich. “Our new Building Performance Improvement Board is important toward the implementation of this process. I encourage all residents who are eligible to please apply for this board.”

County Executive Elrich will appoint members to the board after July 31. Nominees must then be confirmed by the County Council. Applicants of diverse backgrounds, professions, genders, geography, abilities, ethnicities and ages are encouraged to apply.

Gwendolyn E. Coffield Community Recreation Center to Reopen June 13

The Gwendolyn Coffield Community Recreation Center is in the heart of the Rosemary Hills community within the 17.1-acre Rosemary Hills-Lyttonsville Local Park. The recreation center offers a variety of recreation programs and activities for all ages. The Parks grounds, managed by the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission, includes a softball field, a football/soccer field, two multi-use fields, four tennis courts, a playground, and a picnic area.

“The reopening makes it possible for the center to once again be a place for young people, families, and older adults to spend their leisure time,” said Montgomery County Recreation Director Robin Riley. “We have been working behind the scenes to have a facility that where we can offer high-quality recreation programming for everyone.”
