MCPS Athletics Championships Season Begins for Many Sports

The fall sports season is almost over and championships are beginning.. It’s an exciting time for student-athletes and spectators. From soccer to field hockey, volleyball, cheerleading, golf and more, there is a full schedule of events for all sports lovers. Below is an abbreviated schedule, courtesy of MCPS Athletics:

MCPS County Championships
• The MCPS Fall County Championships begin on Thursday, October 20, 2022 with the first round of Team Handball playoffs, Clarksburg traveling to Sherwood for a 3:30 p.m. tip off. The Team Handball County Championships bracket can be found here.
• The MCPS Cross Country Championships are set for Saturday, October 22, 2022 at Bohrer Park in Gaithersburg. Refer to the MCPS Cross Country Championships Fan Focus for information on race day schedules, facility and parking information.
• The 34th Annual MCPS Cheerleading Championships are set for Saturday, October 29, 2022 at Montgomery Blair HS. Refer to the MCPS Cheerleading Championships Fan Focus for information on competition schedule, admission, facility and parking information.
• The schedule for MCPS County Championships for field hockey , boys’ and girls’ soccer, and girls’ volleyball is below. As teams finish up regular season games, opponents will be determined for county championships competition. Information on admission, spectator guidelines, concessions, and more will be noted in the sport specific Fan Focus and shared via local school announcements and on social media, @MCPSathletics twitter and Instagram.
Field Hockey
October 24, 2022, at Paint Branch HS, 6 p.m.
Soccer
October 24, 2022, at Seneca Valley HS, Girls’ 5:30 p.m. and Boys’ 7:15 p.m.
Volleyball
November 1, 2022 at Quince Orchard HS, 6:00 p.m.
• The Winston Churchill Bulldogs will compete against the Walt Whitman Vikings in the 2nd Annual Field Hockey County Championships, set for Monday, October 24, 2022 at Paint Branch High School, 6 p.m. Refer to the MCPS Field Hockey County Championships Fan Focus for information on admission, facility, and spectator guidelines.
Road to States – Region Tournaments
• Maryland Public Secondary Schools Athletic Association (MPSSAA) Region Tournament playoff action begins next week, please refer to the MPSSAA.org website for playoff brackets, and more!
MCPS Golf Ready for States
• MPSSAA Golf State Championships are set for October 24 – 26 at the University of Maryland. Golf fans should refer to the MPSSAA Golf State Championship Central for additional information.
