Montgomery County Libraries Eliminate Overdue Item Fines
The Montgomery County Public Library system has eliminated all fines for overdue library items. MCPL has both eliminated all future fines as well as cancelled all existing unpaid fines.
In a written statement, MCPL Director Anita Vassallo said, “We know that some people are reluctant to use the Library because they’re worried about the fines. We hope that anyone who stopped using our wonderful libraries will come back and take advantage of our great services.”
MCPL said that nationally, approximately 200 other libraries have also eliminated fines. These libraries without fines have seen increased usage of library resources as well as increased returns of long overdue library items.
