Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) were dispatched to 5225 Pooks Hill Rd in Bethesda (Promenade Towers) for a 2nd alarm high rise building fire at approximately 11:30pm Tuesday night. Approximately 90 firefighters were on the scene.

Event

The Triumph Trek at the Rio is the ultimate celebration of strength, recovery and hope — and everyone is invited.

On Sunday, September 20, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., Adventist HealthCare Rehabilitation and Adventist HealthCare Home Care Services will gather at Rio Lakefront in Gaithersburg for an untimed walk-or-wheel around the accessible lakeside path. This is not a race. Scooters, wheelchairs, walkers, strollers and every pace are welcome, and no one finishes last.

The Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) announced a $40.3 million, five-year grant award from the U.S. Department of Education, part of $149 million in federal funds to support initiatives focused on third-grade literacy proficiency across 23 states.

On Tuesday morning, three Title I schools in Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) took part in the district’s first-ever Reading & Robes initiative, where Maryland state judges read aloud to students from culturally diverse books centered on justice and fairness.

On Tuesday, the Montgomery County Council unanimously approved a resolution led by Vice President Kate Stewart, reaffirming the county’s commitment to protecting reproductive rights and urging residents to support Maryland Ballot Question One, which seeks to codify abortion rights in the state.
