Dunkin’ will be taking over the space that was previously home to $2.49 Cleaners, at 12196 Georgia Ave. in Wheaton-Glenmont, on the same block as Trippy’s Tacos and Seafood in the Buff and near Popeyes. An opening timeframe is not yet available for the store, but it appears the store will have a drive-thru (or at least a walk-up window) based on the renderings in the featured photo.
Dunkin’ has been making a big push lately in Montgomery County, with new locations at the Layhill Center (14328 Layhill Rd) in Silver Spring and in the Goshen Crossing Shopping Center in Gaithersburg/Montgomery Village, where it has taken over the former Capital One Bank building at 20000 Goshen Rd. Last December, we let you know that Dunkin’ is continuing its massive expansion across the country and within MoCo, and there are currently an additional four locations in the works with more likely to come.

Sample new flavors, meet the people behind the products and shop directly from the talented makers and businesses who created them.
Experience Chocolate History
One of the highlights of this year’s festival is a large-scale chocolate sculpture of George Washington on horseback, created by award-winning chocolate artist Paul Joachim.
The sculpture will be part of a special exhibit exploring chocolate’s place in early American history. Guests can see the sculpture up close, sample colonial-style drinking chocolate, and shop the exclusive Collector’s Heritage Box inspired by the historic drink. It’s a unique opportunity to experience chocolate through art, history, and taste all in one place.

Visit the Sip & Share Seminar Classroom for educational sessions and demonstrations throughout the weekend, all included with your festival admission. Explore topics ranging from ancestral cacao in the Ecuadorian Amazon and the realities of starting a coffee business to craft chocolate and festival trivia. The DMV Chocolate & Coffee Festival offers an experience the whole family can enjoy. Kids under 12 receive free admission with a ticketed adult and can get creative at our complimentary kids’ craft tables. Festival mascots Chunk & Bean will also be on-site for meet-and-greets and photo opportunities throughout the weekend. Families can even shop for Chunk & Bean plushies, children’s books and other kid-friendly items.

Buffalo Wild Wings, a sports bar and restaurant franchise with two Montgomery County locations, will temporarily close its Gaithersburg store (668 Clopper Road) in Quince Orchard Plaza for renovations. Multiple worried customers sent messages to The MoCoShow about signage being removed, but an employee of the restaurant let us know that it remains open and will only temporarily close from Monday, October 16th until Thursday, October 19th for renovations.
The Gaithersburg location opened in early 2013, replacing Chevy’s, which abruptly closed in February 2012. Buffalo Wild Wings has an additional location in Rockville Town Square and will be opening its first MoCo ‘Buffalo Wild Wings GO’ location– a scaled-down version of the restaurant that focuses on the to-go and delivery format in the upcoming Kensington Crossing– a new retail development that will be located at 10619 Connecticut Avenue (at Plyers Mill Road) in Kensington.

“As the war between Israel and Hamas intensifies, the Montgomery County Department of Police wants to assure our residents that MCPD is actively monitoring developments internationally and nationally and is dedicated to taking proactive measures to ensure the security and well-being of all members of our community. We remain in close contact with our federal, state, local, and private security partners and are sharing information as appropriate.
The Maryland Board of Public Works approved 27 new Maryland Agricultural Preservation Foundation easements during their October 4 meeting. The easements will permanently preserve 4,600 acres of prime farmland in Caroline, Carroll, Cecil, Charles, Dorchester, Frederick, Garrett, Kent, Queen Anne’s, and Wicomico counties, for an investment of more than $16.9 million. “Preserving Maryland farmland is incredibly beneficial to its citizens,” said Maryland Department of Agriculture Secretary Kevin Atticks. “By preventing irreversible conversion of farmland to other uses, we protect our local food supply and our local economy. I am grateful to the landowners that volunteered to preserve these 4,600 acres of farmland.”
The Maryland Agricultural Preservation Foundationwas established in 1977 as part of the Maryland Department of Agriculture.The foundation purchases agricultural preservation easements from willing farmers to forever protect prime farmland and woodland. The newly-approved easements will help the state meet its newly-enacted goal of conserving 30% of state land by 2030. The new goal went into effect on October 1st in accordance with the Maryland the Beautiful Act as passed in the 2023 Session by the Maryland General Assembly.

The Maryland Department of Transportation has announced a series of open house meetings from November 13-16 to engage the public on the American Legion Bridge and 270 Corridor Program and gather community feedback as the program advances. The meetings provide the opportunity for corridor travelers, project neighbors and other stakeholders to directly engage with the program team on potential multimodal transportation solutions for the corridor.
The open houses follow Governor Wes Moore’s August 21 announcement of the path forward for the future of the I-495 and I-270 corridors with a comprehensive program to improve access, opportunity, and quality of life in the Washington region through multimodal enhancements along the I-495 and I-270 corridors, including replacement of the aging American Legion Bridge. The open houses will take place at three venues along the program corridor:
Per the Maryland Attorney General’s Office: “Baltimore, MD (October 13, 2023) – Maryland Attorney General Anthony G. Brown announced today that the State has filed suit against Metropolitan Washington High School and its Principal Gamaliel Onyemaobi-Prince for submitting a fraudulent application for COVIDrelated aid. In response to the COVID pandemic, the Maryland State Department of Education made emergency funds available to private schools to cover COVID-related expenses such as cleaning supplies, PPE, improving ventilation systems, installing physical barriers to allow social distancing, testing, and educational technology needed for on-line or hybrid instruction.
Onyemaobi-Prince submitted an application on behalf of Metropolitan Washington High School, claiming that the school enrolled six hundred students and providing copies of receipts for supplies and services the school claimed to have purchased as a result of COVID. The school, however, allegedly operates out of a residential address and the receipts submitted were forgeries. The Maryland State Department of Education noticed these discrepancies and did not approve the application for COVID aid.

Montgomery County Police are investigating a serious collision that occurred last night on Randolph Rd. According to police, “On Thursday, October 12, 2023, at approximately 7:25 p.m., 4th District officers and Montgomery County Fire Rescue personnel responded to the area of Randolph Road and Glenmont Circle for the report of a single motorcycle collision.
The investigation has revealed that the operator of the motorcycle was traveling westbound on Randolph Rd. prior to Glenmont Circle when the motorcycle collided with the curb for reasons that are still under investigation. As a result of the collision, the motorcyclist was ejected. The adult male motorcyclist, of Silver Spring, was transported to an area hospital in critical condition. More information will be released as it becomes available.”

Through these agreements Novavax’s updated COVID-19 vaccine will be widely available across the U.S., including but not limited to, Costco, CVS Pharmacy, Giant, Publix, Rite Aid, Stop & Shop and Topco, a large retail purchaser for member pharmacies. Novavax’s vaccine received Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) on October 3, 2023.
