Last month we let you know that Adam Greenberg, owner of Potomac Pizza, acquired Hunter’s Bar and Grill at 10123 River Rd in the Potomac Village Shopping Center. The restaurant opened as the Hunter’s Inn in 1978 and rebranded to Hunter’s Bar & Grill in 2014. Hunter’s Bar and Grill was closed today (Monday, September 25th) and will be closed again on Tuesday, September 26th as the new owners make kitchen modifications. The restaurant will reopen on Wednesday, September 27th.
Greenberg’s team plans to maintain a majority of Hunter’s menu offerings and will add their own twist by improving current recipes and experimenting with new items based on customer feedback. Additional information can be found in the initial announcement of the acquisition available here.

Earlier this year, IKEA announced plans to open new format IKEA stores in Fairfax, Virginia, and Gaithersburg, Maryland, in fall 2023. Signage is now up at the Gaithersburg location located at 101 Boardwalk Place Ste 102- the former home of Charming Charlie (photos below). This new customer meeting point, called a Plan & order point with Pick-up, will include home furnishing inspiration and personalized interior design planning, with the addition of an IKEA Pick-up point, allowing customers to pick up their purchases made online or purchased at either Plan & order point location. Purchases made at IKEA Fairfax and Gaithersburg can also be arranged to be conveniently transported to a customer’s home or to another convenient point of delivery.

Hangry Joe’s is now open in the Montgomery Village Shopping Center. The Nashville-style hot chicken restaurant is located adjacent to the Starbuck’s at 19290 Montgomery Village Ave. Hangry Joe’s in know for its hot chicken sandwiches, known as the “Chicken Sando”, and allows guests to choose the spice level of the fried chicken (Plain<Mild<Medium<Hot<Angry Hot). The menu also consists of chicken fingers, chicken & waffles, wraps, nuggets, loaded fries, and salads. Sides include cider slaw, waffle fries, and fried okra.

Popular sushi restaurant Sushi Damo, located at 36G Maryland Ave in Rockville Town Square, has announced that it will close permanently on October 1st. Sushi Damo was one of the first tenants of Rockville Town Square, signing on back in 2006 and opening in 2007.
The restaurant posted the following message on social media, “To our loyal community and guests, we sadly announce to all of you that we’re closing Sushi Damo Rockville forever in 7 days, it was a pleasure serving to all of you during the last 16 years. THANK YOU.” Currently the restaurant is offering 20% off wine bottles during its last week in business.
A large tree down at Dale Drive and Grace Church Road has caused power outages in the Silver Spring/Montgomery Hills/Forest Glen area on Monday evening. According to Chief Spokesperson for MCFRS, multiple people were briefly stuck on the elevators at the Forest Glen Metro station.
Montgomery County Police tweeted the following at 5:53pm: “TRAFFIC ADVISORY: A down tree and wires has Dale Dr. closed between Crosby Rd. and Woodland Dr. Expect significant delays. ABC’s new Bachelor spinoff, “Golden Bachelor”, stars 72-year-old Gerry Turner– a retired restauranteur and widower from Indiana, who is looking for love on the new series that premieres on September 28, 2023. The show’s tagline is “it’s never too late to fall in love…again”, which refers to the contestants’ ages of 60 years young and up. Per MCPD: Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police – Major Crimes Division have arrested and charged a 15-year-old and a 17-year-old, both of Upper Marlboro, with a strong-arm carjacking that occurred on Friday, September 22, 2023, in Silver Spring. At approximately 10:28 p.m., 3rd District officers responded to a parking lot in the 2000 block of Coleridge Dr. for the report of a carjacking that just occurred.
The investigation has determined that the two suspects approached the 77-year-old victim as he was getting out of a gray 2018 Toyota Corolla and demanded his wallet and car keys. The suspects hit the victim, stole his property and car keys and drove away from the scene in the victim’s car.
Per Montgomery County: The Montgomery County Council will meet on Tuesday, Sept. 26 at 9 a.m. and will begin with two proclamation presentations. The first, presented by Councilmember Sidney Katz and County Executive Marc Elrich will recognize National Preparedness Month. The second, presented by Councilmembers Will Jawando, Gabe Albornoz and Laurie-Anne Sayles will recognize National Sickle Cell Awareness Month.
At 1:30 p.m. an additional proclamation, presented by Councilmember Jawando, Council President Evan Glass and Councilmembers Kate Stewart and Marilyn Balcombe, will recognize National Walk and Roll to School Day.
To mark and celebrate lifting the 99-year-old Scotland AME Zion Church from its original battered foundation, the Scotland community and civic leaders will host a media event at 3 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 28.
The church at 10902 Seven Locks Road, built by hand and opened in 1924 by the Black congregants who lived nearby, was catastrophically flooded on July 7, 2019. The milestone of lifting the church so that a new foundation can be poured marks a significant milestone in the more than four-year effort that has drawn local, state, and regional attention and support. “Those of us who thought the church might be lost forever see this moment as a miracle,” said Chuck Williams, chairman of the capital campaign committee that has raised more than $3 million to date.
