Jennifer Celotta is a Montgomery County native who was born in Gaithersburg and graduated from Wootton High School in Rockville in 1989. Since then she has gone on to become a very successful television producer, writer, and director, including directing six episodes of the popular Netflix series Cobra Kai that is a television series sequel to the original Karate Kid films.

Celotta has an impressive résumé that includes writing credits on popular television series’ like, Home Improvement, The Office, Abbott Elementary, Malcolm in the Middle, and a lot more, including directing three episodes of The Office.


MoCo Government

David Blair has released a statement via social media. Blair says “The AP has declared our race too close to call. We’ll be requesting a recount.” David Blair released the following statement on the 2022 Montgomery County Executive Democratic primary election:

“After several weeks of counting and virtually all votes recorded, the Associated Press has declared this race too close to call. Given the extremely close margin, we will be requesting a full recount and are hopeful that the outcome will be in our favor.


Events

Universities at Shady Grove (USG) announced a partnership with Manna Food Center to offer “Manna Choice Market at the Grove.” Launched in 2022, this program will bring a market-style distribution of food right on campus starting in August 2022. On the second Wednesday of every month, students and their families will be able to access the market to select fresh produce and other perishable and nonperishable healthy foods. It will be located at 9631 Gudelsky Drive, Rockville, Maryland 20850.

Per the press release: “Manna Food Center is Montgomery County, Maryland’s designated food assistance agency. Their mission is to end food insecurity through food distribution, education, and advocacy. Their goal is a community where all people, at all times, have access to safe, sufficient, nutritious food in order to lead fulfilling lives and contribute to making Montgomery County a place where all live in dignity. With the additional fresh and healthy options available with the Mobile Market and the Manna Choice Market at the Grove, we feel we can continue to combat food insecurity with our students and our community.


DC Sports

The Alumni Basketball League (ABL) brought together fan favorites from the University of Maryland (The College Park Boys) and Georgetown University (DawgTalk), as the teams squared off on Saturday night at the XFINITY Center in College Park. Many familiar names like Melo Trimble, Chris Wright, Anthony Cowan Jr., Greg Monroe, James Gist, Henry Sims, Ikene Ebekwe, Byron Mouton and more participated in this game that was won by DawgTalk, 117-91, with 29-year-old D’Vauntes Smith-Rivera earning MVP honors.

Maryland’s roster was put together by Travis Garrison, the 2002 Maryland Gatorade Player of the Year who played four years for the Terps, joining the team right after their National Championship victory (2002-2006), before playing professionally in various leagues until 2017. Georgetown’s roster was put together by Chris Wright, who played at Georgetown from 2007-2011. He has played, and continues to play, professionally in various league, spending part of 2013 with the Dallas Mavericks.


Crime

Per Gaithersburg Police: Detectives from the Gaithersburg Police Department – Investigative Section investigated a suspicious situation that occurred at the Target located at 25 Grand Corner Avenue in Gaithersburg.

On Saturday, August 6, 2022 at approximately 8:17 p.m, officers from the Gaithersburg Police Department and Montgomery County Police Department – 6th District responded to the Target located at 25 Grand Corner Avenue for a suspicious situation involving a subject with a gun. The subject was located and taken into custody without incident. A BB gun was located on the person. There is no ongoing threat to the public.


MoCo Government

Marc Elrich has declared victory in the Democratic Primary after an update earlier on Saturday night showed that Marc Elrich (55,469, 39.20%) had a 42 vote lead over David Blair (55,427, 39.17%) with all mail-in ballots and all but 37 of the 7,000 + provisional ballots tabulated. He released the following statement via social media:

When asked about a potential recount, County Executive Marc Elrich replied, “Recounbt [sic] wont change ahmnything [sic]. It chan ged 2. Votes in 2018”


MoCo Government

All mail-in ballots and all but 37 of the 7,000 + provisional ballots have been tabulated, according to Montgomery County’s Board of Elections. The latest update by the Maryland State Board of Elections in the Democratic primary for Montgomery County Executive  (8:15pm, 8/6) shows that incumbent Marc Elrich (55,469, 39.20%) has a 42 vote lead over David Blair (55,427, 39.17%), going from a lead of 198 after Friday night’s update.

David Blair led by 1,191 votes when early voting and Election Day votes were tallied. The lead went back and forth with Marc Elrich keeping a three-digit lead over David Blair the last few days until Saturday night’s update. Overall, Blair has received 26,073 mail-in/provisional ballot votes compared to 27,441 for Marc Elrich. Marc Elrich defeated David Blair by just 77 votes in the 2018 Democratic Primary.


Rockville

The City of Rockville has announced that an antique and classic car show will take place on Saturday, October 15, from 11am-3pm at the Glenview Mansion at Rockville Civic Center Park (603 Edmonston Dr., Rockville).

Registration for the 2022 show will open on Friday, July 1 and will close at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 12. After this date, you can register at the show. Pre-registration is strongly encouraged; there will be very limited day-of registration spaces available. The show is open to vehicles 25 years and older. All vehicles, flea market vendors, and car sales must complete a registration form, pay the entry fee, and arrive to the event between 8:30 -11 a.m.  No latecomers will gain entrance. All fees are non-refundable.


Rockville

Adventist HealthCare’s hospitals in Montgomery County have received national awards for providing rapid, research-based and high-quality care to heart attack patients. Shady Grove Medical Center and White Oak Medical Center have both earned American Heart Association awards. Shady Grove has received the Mission: Lifeline STEMI Receiving Center Gold Plus award and White Oak Medical Center has received the Mission: Lifeline STEMI & NSTEMI Gold awards. The hospitals previously earned national recognition for providing high-quality stroke care.

Per the press release: Each year, more than 280,000 people nationwide experience a STEMI heart attack, caused by a complete blockage in a coronary artery. Known as the deadliest type of heart attack, the STEMI must be treated in an efficient, timely manner. The NSTEMI is experienced by over 546,000 people a year and is caused by a partial blockage of blood flow to the heart. Both types of heart attacks require medical staff to work as quickly as possible to restore blood flow, either mechanically or by providing medication.


Education

MCPS currently has 247 full-time teaching positions and 60 part-time open teaching positions as the first day of school approaches (August 29th), according to the school system’s website. Last Tuesday, MCPS hosted a virtual informational session for job seekers to learn about available openings for the 2022-2023 school year. On Friday morning the Montgomery County Board of Education tweeted, “MCPS is looking for special education teachers! Do you know someone who would be a great fit? Encourage them to apply at mcpscareers.org“.

According to a late July post on the MCPS website, the school system offered the following information: MCPS is the largest and most diverse school system in Maryland.
