At Tuesday’s Board of Education meeting, the Montgomery County BOE voted 7-1 to adopt a policy that will allow MCPS to shift to virtual instruction instead of canceling classes for traditional snow days. The policy went into effect immediately and covers the remainder of the current school year.
The BOE says the reason for possible virtual learning days is to prevent having to extend the school year.
Rio Lakefront is taking its proposal for a new sign package and design to the City of Gaithersburg’s Planning Commission tonight. Peterson Cos. is asking for language that does not allow for the sign to be within 10 feet of I-270 to be removed to allow the sign to be more visible.

A Rockville Senior Center Employee and Rockville Police officer were able to save a woman who suffered from a fall and was in distress for four days, conscious, but unable to move on the floor of her home. The Rockville Police Department shared the story on social media. It can be seen below:
“Last week Mr. Gerry Jones, a Rockville Senior Center employee, decided to go check on a senior citizen whom he had not seen or heard from in a few days. He saw her car in the driveway, the mail piling up and no one answered his knocks on the door.

Gaithersburg, MD – Detectives from the Montgomery County Police – 3rd District Investigative Section are asking for the public’s assistance in locating a missing 18-year-old male from Silver Spring.
Donutchew, a mochi donut shop, is coming to Rio Lakefront taking over the location that was formerly home to Starbucks next to Fantasticks at 213 Boardwalk Place in Rio.
Earlier this afternoon we spoke with a representative who told us construction has already begun and that Donutchew expects to open in approximately three months.
Maryland-National Park Police have released the following statement regarding this morning’s incident in Olney.
“At 9:16 am today, officers responded to the Olney Swim Center for a call of a suspicious person. The staff believed the person to be related to prior thefts. Officers arrived on the scene as the person was leaving the property in a vehicle.
