New Cooperative Agreement to Aid in the Development of Therapeutics and Vaccines, Improve Access to Medication

IBBR, a joint research enterprise of the University of Maryland, College Park, the University of Maryland, Baltimore, and the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), received an investment of over $16 million ($3.3 million each year) from the National Institute of Standards and Technology, which has its headquarters in Gaithersburg.

Discovery+ will be airing Uprooted, a three-part docuseries on the death of Silver Spring teenage, Keith Warren, beginning February 18.  Warren was found hanging from a tree on July 31, 1986 near his home in Silver Spring. The death was classified as a suicide but because of inconsistencies in the case, his family has long believed it to be a lynching.

The series follows Keith Warren’s sisters 35 year attempt to change the cause of death on Keith’s death certificate. The docuseries will be accompanied by a six-part podcast hosted by Black Lives Matter co-founder Alicia Garza, according to Deadline.

In a social media post from Governor Larry Hogan this morning, it was revealed that Maryland’s First Lady Yumi Hogan has tested positive for Covid-19.

“As part of our weekly testing regimen, the First Lady tested positive for COVID-19. Having been vaccinated and boosted, she is only experiencing mild symptoms. She will quarantine at Government House. I received negative rapid and PCR tests.

A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect for us tomorrow morning. From 4am in Upper MoCo and 6am in C/SW MoCo until 11am.

The National Weather Service has once again slightly increased its latest maps. About two thirds of MoCo is in the 2-3” range with a third in the 1-2” range. The “reasonable worst case scenario” map now shows up to 4 inches possible.
