DC Sports

The Washington Commanders’ ongoing contract saga with star wide receiver Terry McLaurin took a dramatic turn today as NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported that McLaurin has requested a trade. The news, coming amidst a prolonged “hold-in” from the Pro Bowl receiver, could signal a significant breakdown in negotiations between the two sides.

Crime

James Lorenzo Greene, 49, of Fairmount Heights, was sentenced in Montgomery County Circuit Court to 23 years in prison for a 2000 first-degree rape in Montgomery Village, identified through a DNA match in a 23-year cold case investigation. He will also serve five years of supervised probation upon release and must register as a sex offender for life.

Governor Wes Moore is urging Marylanders to prepare for potential flash flooding and severe storms expected this afternoon and evening, with the highest risk along the I-95 corridor and upper Eastern Shore, as all counties except Garrett and Allegany are under a flood watch.

Bethesda

An active shooter report at Walter Reed Medical Center in Bethesda this morning was quickly resolved after the Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD) determined the individual was carrying a plastic training rifle. The incident, which prompted a significant police response, was found to have no malicious intent, and the individual is not being charged.

Crime

The Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD) responded to a domestic disturbance on Saturday, July 26, 2025, in the 19900 block of Stoney Point Way in Germantown, where a man was reportedly threatening to kill his child. Officers arrested 47-year-old Dugan Gokhan after a Taser was used to disarm him, and he was charged with multiple offenses including assault, child abuse, and reckless endangerment. (more…)
