Montgomery County, in partnership with local governments and organizations, will host its 28th annual Juneteenth Celebration on Saturday, June 21, 2025, at the BlackRock Center for the Arts in Germantown, featuring live performances, vendors, food, and community programming under the theme “Pushing Back – The Fight for Freedom is Not Over.” The festivities begin with the African American Living Legends Awards Ceremony on June 20, honoring residents over age 75 for their significant contributions to the county, as leaders emphasize the importance of preserving and celebrating African American history and culture. Join Kaiser Permanente for Healthy at the Harbor, a free community health and wellness event taking place Saturday, June 6, from 11 am to 4 pm at National Harbor in Prince George’s County, Maryland. Montgomery County has become the first local government in Maryland to earn a SolSmart Platinum designation for streamlining solar permitting and promoting affordable solar energy adoption through initiatives like its eSolar program and solar dashboard.

DMV

Purple Line crews have begun installing light rail tracks, reconstructing sidewalks and completing stormwater drainage and utility crossings across the intersection of Wayne Avenue and Fenton Street. This work will require a temporary full closure of the Wayne Avenue and Fenton Street intersection to vehicular traffic.

DC Sports

Noah Brown joined the Washington Commanders in August 2024 and made an immediate impact during his nine starts until a kidney injury cut his season short. Recently, he sustained an injury during minicamp, and while the team hasn’t provided an official update since his MRI, a fan offered some reassurance.

Restaurants

Maryland’s first Hey Tea is celebrating its grand opening at 891-F Rockville Pike in Wintergreen Plaza. The new Rockville location occupies the former space of Sweetfrog, situated between Wingstop and Paisano’s Pizza. Much like the Tysons Corner store, where lines stretched around the corner in its first month or two, today’s launch saw a line that extended down the shopping center and around the corner (video below).
