Beyond MoCo

The Prince George’s County Police Department’s Cold Case Unit charged 82-year-old Rodger Zodas Brown with the 1979 murder of Kathryn Donohue in Glenarden, MD, following advancements in forensic genetic genealogy. Brown, who lived in Hyattsville at the time of the crime, was arrested in North Carolina and faces extradition to Prince George’s County on charges of first-degree murder, rape, and related offenses. MCDOT

The Montgomery County Department of Transportation’s (MCDOTs) Ride On Reimagined plan will modernize the bus network over several years, with the first phase launching in June 2025 to improve service efficiency and route alignment. By 2030 and beyond, the plan envisions expanded Bus Rapid Transit, new microtransit zones, and increased service frequency, contingent on funding availability. (more…)


MoCo Government

The Montgomery County Council approved a resolution to establish the Infrastructure Funding Workgroup, which will assess the County’s schools, transportation, and parks infrastructure needs and recommend equitable and sustainable funding solutions. The workgroup, composed of County agencies and stakeholders, must submit a final report by June 30, 2026.

Beyond MoCo

Maryland State Police arrested Harriet Penniman Van Kleeck, 63, of Towson, MD, for suspected impaired driving after she struck a state trooper’s patrol vehicle on I-695. The trooper, who was inside the vehicle with emergency lights activated, was taken to a hospital and later released, while the investigation remains ongoing.

Maryland Attorney General Anthony G. Brown announced that Aqua Vision Care, LLC agreed to pay $143,336 to resolve allegations of submitting false Medicaid claims for vision services not provided. The settlement includes $71,668 in restitution for unprovided services and a $71,668 civil penalty.

A Burtonsville woman, dubbed “Lucky Lady,” claimed a $50,000 Powerball prize on St. Patrick’s Day, after realizing she had won from the October 2024 drawing. Montgomery County is rallying around one of its own as actor Kevin Saunders faces a challenging battle against leukemia. Growing up in Gaithersburg, Kevin has emerged as a promising talent in the entertainment industry, known for his recent roles in popular series and films, including STARZ’s “BMF,” “Atlanta,” “The Falcon and The Winter Soldier,” “Cobra Kai,” and Clint Eastwood’s “Juror #2.”

Montgomery County Public Schools, in partnership with the Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory, recognized regional winners of the Math, Engineering, and Science Achievement (MESA) program, where students showcased innovative projects addressing societal concerns. First-place winners from several MCPS schools will advance to the MESA State Competition on May 3, 2025, at the Applied Physics Laboratory. (more…)
