Montgomery Parks will be conducting prescribed fires at River Road Shale Barrens Conservation Park (Poolesville) and Serpentine Barrens Conservation Park (Potomac) in early to mid-March 2025 to help restore the parks’ native habitats and better support natural ecosystems.

Maryland

The Maryland Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services (DPSCS) has launched its body-worn camera pilot program. During the pilot, correctional officers will wear the cameras during their shifts to refine their implementation before an agency-wide rollout which is planned for later this year.

Beyond MoCo

Today, in Frederick County Circuit Court, Judge Joanmarie Raymond Brubaker sentenced 33-year old Tre Anthony Garrett, of Germantown, MD to 30 years, suspend all but 15 years in the Division of Corrections for First-Degree Child Abuse and Neglect of a Minor.

Maryland

Governor Wes Moore released the FY 2026 supplemental budget, which includes funding adjustments and technical corrections. Key allocations include nearly $300 million for the Developmental Disabilities Administration, $37 million for the FAMLI program, and $15 million for the Registers of Wills, while reductions include $80 million from Strategic Energy Investment Fund initiatives and $37 million from non-union salary increases.
