The Montgomery County Office of Emergency Management and Homeland Security has issued a Heat Emergency Alert from noon Monday, June 23, through 8 a.m. Thursday, June 26, due to dangerously high temperatures and heat index values expected to reach 105 degrees, prompting the County to open cooling centers, provide free water on buses, and urge residents to take precautions to avoid heat-related illnesses.
The Washington Regional Alcohol Program (WRAP) will offer free Lyft rides up to $15 on July 4 to help prevent drunk driving in the Washington, D.C. metro area, where nearly 40% of Independence Day traffic deaths involve alcohol, according to NHTSA. (more…)
