Bethesda

In October we let you know that Japanese retailer UNIQLO is coming to Westfield Montgomery Mall (7101 Democracy Blvd) in Bethesda. Last month we know the retailer has received a permit valued at $1.425 million to build out the store, and now we know the store is aiming for a late spring opening, according to a representative from the Downtown Silver Spring location.

Mack Hollins, a native of Montgomery County, MD, is continuing his stellar NFL career as he signs a two-year contract worth $8.4 million with the New England Patriots. Hollins, who attended Robert Frost Middle School and Wootton High School, has come a long way since his early days on the gridiron.

Beyond MoCo

Last week we let you know that Celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay was making waves in Maryland as he filmed television series, “Kitchen Nightmares” (or a show with a similar premise) in Frederick, MD. The restaurant he was filming at, Callahan’s Seafood Bar & Grill (1808 Rosemont Ave. in Frederick, MD) has announced that it will be reopening on Tuesday, March 11th.

Beyond MoCo

A late-night altercation in the 3100 block of Wilson Boulevard in Arlington, VA resulted in multiple arrests and charges against three individuals from Germantown, MD on March 10. Arlington police were dispatched to the scene at approximately 1:52 a.m. after receiving reports of a fight inside a business.

Announcement

On August 22, the New Neighbor Interfaith Alliance (NNIA) will host the 2026 Set Them Up for Success Volleyball Tournament and Family Fun Day from 9 am-4 pm at the Interdenominational Church of God in Gaithersburg, gathering volleyball teams, faith community members, and the public to raise funds to help recent refugees in Montgomery County attain independence.

An interfaith non-profit alliance of 37 faith communities and civic groups, NNIA raises funds to help resettled refugees with rental assistance, deferred medical care, English language skills and job placement. They also hope to expand their volunteer numbers to help more beneficiaries with job assistance, reliable transportation, and mentoring.


Clarksburg

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) responded to a building fire at a large storage barn on Burnt Hill Rd in Clarksburg on Monday evening.

According to MCFRS spokesperson David Pazos, the fire was reported around 5:37 PM after a person using binoculars saw smoke. Crews located the building with help from the 911 caller and extinguished the fire.


MoCo Government

The Montgomery County Council will meet on March 11 to hold public hearings on the More Housing N.O.W. package, which aims to expand workforce housing and streamline housing development approvals. The meeting will also include votes on zoning changes, supplemental appropriations for Montgomery County Public Schools, and a financial assurance plan for stormwater management, along with a proclamation recognizing Women’s History Month. Bethesda

Federal Realty has announced recently opened and soon-to-open establishments for Bethesda Row, located at the intersection of Bethesda Avenue and Arlington Road in Bethesda, MD. Celebrating 30 years in 2024, the Bethesda Row neighborhood is home to restaurants and retail with a total of 536,000 square feet of mixed-use space.
