The Maryland high school football state championships are upon us, and the stage is set for what promises to be a thrilling weekend of gridiron action. HONORING THE 25TH ANNIVERSARY OF 9/11
Newly announced, the festival will open on Friday evening, September 11, with a special tribute honoring the 25th anniversary of 9/11. All three bands performing that evening include veterans and active-duty military members.
Be sure to visit Old Fireman’s BBQ Food Truck and meet a firefighter who was on-site at the Pentagon on that fateful day. We are offering special pricing for first responders and military.
MEET THE WORLD’S LARGEST RUBBER DUCK
Mama Duck, the world’s largest rubber duck, is coming to the Chesapeake Bay! This enormous, family-favorite attraction has appeared around the world, and now she is making her Maryland Seafood Festival debut.

EXPERIENCE SKIPJACK HERITAGE DAYS
Taking place alongside the Maryland Seafood Festival, Skipjack Heritage Days invites families to discover the stories and traditions of the Chesapeake Bay through hands-on activities, educational exhibits and public sails aboard historic skipjacks.
The weekend culminates with a Sunday skipjack race that guests can watch from the festival grounds at East Beach. Skipjacks are living history and icons of our region—this is a rare opportunity to experience them up close.

Gaithersburg’s Rio Lakefront is hosting its annual “Light Up the Lakefront” event on Saturday, December 7th from 5pm-7pm that will feature a fireworks display over the lake.
The Washington Commanders beat the Tennessee Titans 42-19 on Sunday, getting back on track after a three game losing streak. The Commanders are now 8-5 and would be in the playoffs if they were to start today. Next week is their bye with the New Orleans up next after that. Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police – 6th District Investigative Section are asking for the public’s assistance in locating Jeremiah Joseph Perry, a missing 38-year-old.
The Potomac Horse Center (PHC) closed permanently in July, after 31 years leasing the location from Montgomery Parks (14211 Quince Orchard Rd in North Potomac). In a statement in May, Montgomery Parks wrote that the PHC, a private business, notified Montgomery Parks of its intent to end its lease. Now, Montgomery Parks is preparing the site for the future which will include the demolition of buildings on site that are beyond repair.
After a 7-2 start, the Washington Commanders have lost three straight heading into today’s game against the Tennessee Titans. Yesterday, they made some major moves, releasing 2023 1st round draft pick Emmanuel Forbes Jr., and today they made another move that shows what the current regime thinks of Ron Rivera’s draft picks.
Rockville has expanded its electric vehicle charging network with four new Level 2 chargers at Mattie J.T. Stepanek Park, adding to existing stations at City Hall and Thomas Farm Community Center, with a new DC fast charger coming soon. (more…)
Rachel Carson Elementary School (RCES) hosted its first Turkey Trot to boost student attendance and mitigate chronic absenteeism on the day before Thanksgiving break. The school also utilized the event as an opportunity to collect canned food for the community of Hope at Seneca Creek Church. A video of the event can be seen below.
California Tortilla has closed one of its Gaithersburg locations permanently. According to a sign on the door at 255 Spectrum Ave at the Spectrum Town Center, the restaurant closed its doors on Wednesday, November 27th.
Rockville Town Square’s annual tree lighting ceremony ‘Tree Lighting at the Square’ will be held from 6pm-9pm on Friday, December 6 in Town Square, 200 E. Middle Lane.
