The Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD) has charged Adelaida Consuelo Zacarias Chacon, of Germantown, and Reyna Gomez Lopez, of Philadelphia, with first-degree conspiracy to commit murder after an investigation revealed that Chacon allegedly paid Gomez Lopez to arrange a murder-for-hire plot against her ex-boyfriend.
Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police – Special Victims Investigations Division (SVID) are asking for the public’s assistance in locating Isabella Christina Suarez, a missing 14-year-old from Rockville. (more…)

On August 22, the New Neighbor Interfaith Alliance (NNIA) will host the 2026 Set Them Up for Success Volleyball Tournament and Family Fun Day from 9 am-4 pm at the Interdenominational Church of God in Gaithersburg, gathering volleyball teams, faith community members, and the public to raise funds to help recent refugees in Montgomery County attain independence.
An interfaith non-profit alliance of 37 faith communities and civic groups, NNIA raises funds to help resettled refugees with rental assistance, deferred medical care, English language skills and job placement. They also hope to expand their volunteer numbers to help more beneficiaries with job assistance, reliable transportation, and mentoring.

Back in May we let you know that Classic Bakery will be opening a new location at 18195 Village Center Dr. in Olney- the bakery’s third overall, adding to Gaithersburg and Tyson’s Corner. It will be taking over the space that was recently home to Cold Stone, which is moving within the shopping center. Classic Bakery tells us they hope to open mid to late quarter 1 (2025) with a tentative target date of March 1st that’s subject to change.

Good Fortune Cafe, which has been serving the area since 1994 (according to its website), closed in August at 237 Kentlands Place. At the time an employee shared that they would be returning later in the year in the space that has been home to Happy Uncle in Germantown’s Clopper’s Mill shopping center (18022 Mateny Rd.) for more than 20 years. Today, it was confirmed by Happy Uncle that Good Fortune would be taking over early next year.
