Connecticut Avenue Reopens in Both Directions After Today’s Extended Closure

Connecticut Ave. was closed in both directions between Chevy Chase Lake Dr. & Dunlop St. in Chevy Chase as the result of downed trees and wires, according to a tweet from Montgomery County Police Tuesday morning. Drivers were advised to seek an alternate route and to expect significant delays. An update provided on Tuesday night by Alert Montgomery states that all lanes have reopened in both directions on Connecticut Ave (MD-185) between Chevy Chase Lake Dr. and Dunlop St.

Adult Bike and Scooter Classes This September, October and November

Per MCDOT: The Montgomery County Department of Transportation (MCDOT), in collaboration with the Washington Area Bicyclist Association (WABA), is offering adult bike classes in September, October and November. The classes include both Learn to Ride and Basic Skills classes. MCDOT also will offer four free, walk-up scooter classes following select bike classes.

Advance registration is required to participate in the bicycle classes and cost $10 for Montgomery County residents. There is no charge for WABA or Capital Bikeshare For All members. Bicycles and helmets will be provided at no charge for the adult Learn to Ride class participants and can be rented from WABA, if needed, for the Basic Skills class participants. Scooter classes are free of charge.

The Montgomery County Green Bank (Green Bank) and National Capital Bank (NCB) have collaborated to provide a customized financing solution for an energy efficiency project at Kenwood House Cooperative (Kenwood House) in Chevy Chase, MD. Through a participation loan transaction totaling $1,200,000, Kenwood House will implement crucial upgrades such as a domestic hot water heating system, building envelope improvements, and electric vehicle charger infrastructure. This groundbreaking financing structure marks a significant milestone for the partnership between the Green Bank and National Capital Bank.

This project exemplifies the very essence of the Green Bank’s mission to forge innovative partnerships in order to provide clean energy solutions that benefit the entire County,” says Steve Morel, CEO, Montgomery County Green Bank. “This customized loan structure further demonstrates our adaptability and commitment to crafting personalized solutions that precisely cater to specific financing requirements.” Kenwood House investment, supporting an overall $2 million capital improvement project at Kenwood House, was made possible through the flexible and affordable financing provided by the Green Bank and National Capital Bank. As a result of their participation, Kenwood House secured a blended interest rate on the loan, ensuring a cost-effective and favorable financial arrangement.

Latest Update on The Heights Food Hall

Update: The targeted opening is now by the end of September

The Heights Food Hall at Wisconsin Place in Chevy Chase is now targeting a late August opening. The new food hall will be located in the space formerly occupied by Anthropologie and PF Chang’s on the 5400 block of Wisconsin Ave. The Heights will offer both indoor and outdoor patio dining and will be open seven days a week from 11am-Midnight. According to Common Plate Hospitality (CPH) group, the food hall will include: e one full-service restaurant (Urbano), a full-service bar (The Heights Bar), a speakeasy (The Turncoat), and eight local food stalls, including one stall picked from Urbano’s “Stall Wars” competition. Three Arrested With Over $15K in Stolen Property From MoCo Department Store

Per Fairfax County Police: Officers assigned to the Tysons Urban Team (TUT) successfully prevented an organized retail theft crew from carrying out their intended plan and made a swift arrest. On July 13, officers received a tip from Sak’s Fifth Ave Regional Loss Prevention team that the Saks Fifth Avenue store located in Chevy Chase, Maryland reported a retail theft crew left the store in a gold Chevrolet Impala with Pennsylvania tags.

With this information, TUT officers utilized LPR technology and learned that the vehicle had entered Virginia and was in the immediate vicinity. The vehicle was located and observed by TUT units heading in the direction of Saks Fifth Avenue in McLean. The vehicle’s occupants were observed by the TUT team entering the store. Once in the store, they selected multiple high-end handbags and other luxury merchandise and headed toward the exit without paying. When approached by the store’s Loss Prevention team, the two suspects ran. TUT units were already in the area and were able to take one suspect into custody. The other suspect was found in a nearby dumpster after a brief search of the area. The driver of the vehicle was soon located and taken into custody, as well.

Sale of Commanders to Group Led By MoCo Native Josh Harris Expected to Be Approved at Today’s NFL Owners Meeting

In May it was announced that the Washington Commanders and a partnership led by MoCo native Josh Harris (Chevy Chase) have entered into a purchase and sale agreement. Earlier this week, the NFL finance committee voted unofficially to recommend approval of the deal to buy the Commanders with various sources saying the NFL has reached an agreement with Daniel Snyder to resolve any remaining legal issues. Today, the approval is expected to become official at the NFL owners’ meeting in Minneapolis.

The sale to the group led by Philadelphia 76ers co-owner and Chevy Chase native Josh Harris, Potomac billionaire Mitchell Rales, and NBA legend Magic Johnson for just over $6 billion is expected to close on Friday. Snyder purchased what was then the Washington Redskins for $800 million in 1999 after the death of previous owner Jack Kent Cooke.

New Dunkin’ is Coming to Chevy Chase Metro Building

A new Dunkin’ is coming to 2 Wisconsin Circle, the Chevy Chase Metro building in Chevy Chase. It is slated to take over suite 100, which was recently home to Karin’s Cafe (currently listed as temporarily closed on Google).

According to the rendering for the new location (seen below), it appears that it will have electronic ordering boards and a walk-up window for customers to pick up their orders. This is the second announced upcoming Chevy Chase location, with another Dunkin’ coming to 8500 Connecticut Ave. Opening dates for both Chevy Chase locations are not yet available.
