11 Great Places in MoCo for Fall Foliage

Fall is here and the colors around us are about to change. Whether it’s the taste of a warm pumpkin-flavored latte, the cool breeze of a crisp fall morning, weekends full of football, or the yellow glow of the sun on a tall birch tree, autumn is often a contender for MoCo residents’ favorite season (however short it may be). Many locals are looking forward to combining all the best parts of fall and enjoying the foliage outdoors, so we’ve put together a small list of 11 where you can enjoy the foliage across the county:

Agricultural Reserve: A drive through the rural areas that the 93,000 acre Agricultural Reserve encompasses, along with the larger rural communities of Damascus and Poolesville and small crossroad communities such as Beallsville, Sunshine and Dickerson, are sure to give you your fill of fall foliage.

Hunter’s Bar and Grill to Reopen on Wednesday, September 27th Following Kitchen Modifications by New Ownership

Last month we let you know that Adam Greenberg, owner of Potomac Pizza, acquired Hunter’s Bar and Grill at 10123 River Rd in the Potomac Village Shopping Center. The restaurant opened as the Hunter’s Inn in 1978 and rebranded to Hunter’s Bar & Grill in 2014. Hunter’s Bar and Grill was closed today (Monday, September 25th) and will be closed again on Tuesday, September 26th as the new owners make kitchen modifications. The restaurant will reopen on Wednesday, September 27th.

Greenberg’s team plans to maintain a majority of Hunter’s menu offerings and will add their own twist by improving current recipes and experimenting with new items based on customer feedback. Additional information can be found in the initial announcement of the acquisition available here.

Historic Potomac Community Celebrates Major Milestone in Reconstruction With the Lifting of Scotland AME Zion Church

To mark and celebrate lifting the 99-year-old Scotland AME Zion Church from its original battered foundation, the Scotland community and civic leaders will host a media event at 3 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 28.

The church at 10902 Seven Locks Road, built by hand and opened in 1924 by the Black congregants who lived nearby, was catastrophically flooded on July 7, 2019. The milestone of lifting the church so that a new foundation can be poured marks a significant milestone in the more than four-year effort that has drawn local, state, and regional attention and support. “Those of us who thought the church might be lost forever see this moment as a miracle,” said Chuck Williams, chairman of the capital campaign committee that has raised more than $3 million to date.

MCFRS Respond to Vehicle Fire in Bethesda Garage

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) responded to a car fire in a parking garage at the intersection of Auburn Ave and Norfolk Ave in Bethesda. According to MCFRS Assistant Chief David Pazos, “MCFRS units located a vehicle fire on the 3rd floor of the parking garage. Fire has been extinguished with no occupants injured. Smoke is being removed, and FD presence should be downsized shortly.” There were no reported injuries.

Trip Advisor is a popular American online travel company that offers ratings of restaurants primarily from those who have traveled to the area, rather than locals. If you’re interested in seeing the opinions of those who have traveled to the area, you’re in luck, as today we’ll be sharing the top 10 restaurants according to Trip Advisor.

10. Silver Diner (12276 Rockville Pike, Rockville): With a 4 out of 5 rating after 639 reviews, Silver Diner comes in #10 overall in the county and #2 in Rockville. The restaurant has an additional MoCo location at Gaithersburg’s Rio.

Momo Chicken & Grill Has Closed its Bethesda Restaurant Permanently

Momo Chicken & Grill opened at 4862 Cordell Ave nearly ten years ago as Momo Chicken and Jazz. The restaurant closed permanently earlier this week, according to an announcement made on social media.

Momo Bethesda wrote “Today marks the end of an era. This location (Bethesda) is closing its doors, but the memories and flavors will live on forever. Thank you for being a part of our journey.” The restaurant opened in the spring of 2014 offering Korean fried chicken, bento boxes, teriyaki, bulgogi, pork spare ribs, other Korean barbecue items, and more. Momo’s Navy Yard location will remain open.

Child Struck by Driver Friday in Bethesda

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) responded to the 8400 blk of Old Georgetown Road, near Greenwich Neighborhood Park, in Bethesda for the report of a child pedestrian struck by a driver. According to Montgomery County Police, Old Georgetown Road is closed at Glenwood Rd. Drivers should seek an alternate route and expect significant delays.

Governor Wes Moore Visits Marriott Global Headquarters in Bethesda in Support of Hospitality Industry Workforce Development

Per the State of Maryland: Governor Wes Moore yesterday visited the new Marriott Global headquarters in Montgomery County, marking the first anniversary of the headquarters opening in Bethesda. Marriott International President and Chief Executive Officer Anthony Capuano and Chairman of the Board of Marriott International David Marriott hosted the governor for a tour of the facility, which provides cutting-edge workforce development for the hospitality industry worldwide.

“Marriott’s innovative facility represents a lasting investment in Maryland that reinforces our commitment to strengthening our workforce for generations to come,” said Gov. Moore. “The state-of-the-art headquarters creates jobs for Marylanders, strengthens our economy, and puts Maryland on the map as a hub for global hospitality.”
