The World’s Largest Pickle Party Returns to Maryland This Month

The Big Dill, which describes itself as the “#1 Pickle Party in the World”, returns to Power Plant Live! at 34 Market Pl in Baltimore on September 23 and 24. The two day event will include pickle sampling, concerts, carnival games, a pickle eating contest, a brine chugging competition, and an appearance by “Dilly” the pickle. Pickle flavored cupcakes, donuts, fudge, ice cream, and pizza are a few of the items that will be available for purchase at the event.

Per the Big Dill: The Big Dill World’s Largest Pickle Party® is the premier pickle event of the year, featuring a pickle garden with 10+ handpicked artisan pickle companies sampling and selling a variety of pickles from all over the country. After the festival, attendees will receive a survey to vote for their favorite pickle company that will win The Best in Show. Entertaining guests throughout the weekend is a modern country, pop, and rock-themed live stage production with performances by musicians, actors, comedy routines, and choreographed dancers. Guests are also entertained by the crowd’s favorite, The Pickle Eating Championship featuring competitive eaters and the hilarious Brine Chug Challenge.

Per the State of Maryland: Governor Wes Moore today delivered the keynote address at the inaugural Maryland Minority Business Counts event at Bowie State University. Event participants engaged with state government agencies and attended educational sessions to learn more about doing business with the state of Maryland as a Minority Business Enterprise program participant.

“If we harness the immense potential and energy in this room and channel it toward achieving our goals, we stand a real chance to fix what’s broken in our economy and build a brighter future for all Marylanders,” said Gov. Moore. “In partnership, we will build an economy that is more inclusive, more dynamic, more innovative, and more competitive—an economy that leaves no one behind.”

Metro to Shut Down Red Line Service at Three Stations in December for Critical Repairs and Upgrades

On Monday, December 18, Metro will begin a two-week construction project on the Red Line to perform critical safety repairs to the tunnel and track infrastructure, upgrade signal and communications systems, and install new platform edge lights.

During construction, Red Line service will be unavailable at Farragut North, Metro Center, and Gallery Place stations with free shuttle buses replacing trains from December 18 through Saturday, December 30. While the Red Line is closed, service will continue to be available on the Blue, Orange, and Silver lines on the lower level at Metro Center and Green and Yellow line service on the lower level at Gallery Place.

Bruce Springsteen Postpones MD and DC Concerts

Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band have postponed all performances currently scheduled for September 2023, which included last week’s scheduled concert at Camden Yards in Baltimore and the September 29th show at Nationals Park in DC.

Springsteen is being treated for symptoms of peptic ulcer disease and the decision of his medical advisors is that he should postpone the remainder of his September shows. Springsteen made the following comment:

Governor Wes Moore and Lieutenant Governor Aruna Miller Visit Baltimore Safe Haven

Per the State of Maryland: Yesterday, Governor Wes Moore and Lieutenant Governor Aruna Miller visited Baltimore Safe Haven, a transitional housing facility in Baltimore that provides services for Maryland’s transgender community. The visit, made in partnership with the Maryland Commission on LGBTQIA+ Affairs, provided an opportunity to tour the organization’s housing facilities, learn about the services they offer, and participate in a discussion about the needs of transgender Marylanders.

“In Maryland, we lead with love and inclusion and nobody should have to justify their own humanity,” said Gov. Moore. “Baltimore Safe Haven provides help and hope to the people who need it most. The only way forward is together, and Baltimore Safe Haven has a partner in the State House. We have a lot of work to do, and we must tackle that work in partnership. If we do, we can build a kinder, safer Maryland for all.”

Update on New Restaurant Concept From Chick-Fil-A Opening Next Week Maryland

Little Blue Menu, a new digital restaurant concept by Chick-Fil-A, is scheduled to open at 7242 Baltimore Ave in College Park on Thursday, September 14. Items from Little Blue Menu will only available for pickup and delivery via online ordering. In addition to the standard Chick-Fil-A menu, menu options will include wings, burgers, and sides such as onion rings, sweet potato tots and crispy brussels sprouts. The restaurant will be open Monday-Saturday, 6:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. Additional details below.

Active Internal Affairs Division Investigation Underway into Prince George’s County Police Officer’s Actions

Per Prince George’s County Police: The Prince George’s County Police Department’s Internal Affairs Division (IAD) is actively investigating the actions of a Prince George’s County Police officer that were recorded and posted on social media. The Department is aware of two videos involving Corporal Francesco Marlett and an adult female. As soon as the agency became aware of the first video on Tuesday, IAD opened an investigation and Chief Malik Aziz decisively suspended this officer’s police powers.

As part of its investigation, the Internal Affairs Division is attempting to interview all parties involved as well as citizens with knowledge of the interactions. IAD encourages those with knowledge to please assist with the investigation by speaking with detectives. Your information could play a key role in helping us determine exactly what happened and taking appropriate action.

Prince George’s County Police Officer Suspended After TikTok Video Goes Viral

A Prince George’s County Police (PGPD) officer has been suspended as the department continues to investigate the circumstances of a video that appears to show the uniformed officer enter the backseat of a marked police vehicle with a woman. The video, which was first posted on TikTok on Monday, September 4, has since gone viral and is making national headlines.

On Tuesday, PGPD tweeted, “PGPD Executive Command is aware of a video circulating on social media with one of our officers. As soon as we became aware earlier today, we opened an investigation to determine the circumstances. Additional information will be released once investigated and confirmed.”

Maryland Man Pleads Guilty for Threatening An LGBTQI+ Advocacy Group; “You have the right to your own opinions, but you don’t have the right to threaten the lives of those who disagree with you”

Per the U.S. Attorney’s Office, District of Maryland:– Adam Michael Nettina, age 34, of West Friendship, Maryland, pleaded guilty today to using the telephone to threaten a group that advocates for LGBTQI+ people. As part of his plea agreement, Nettina also admitted sending messages to Maryland and Virginia state delegates due to their statements in support of transgender people.

“You have the right to your own opinions, but you don’t have the right to threaten the lives of those who disagree with you,” said United States Attorney for the District of Maryland, Erek L. Barron. “We’ll continue prosecuting these threats to the fullest extent of the law.”
