The rising sophomore forward, a proud product of Montgomery County, is representing the United States at the 2025 FIBA U19 Women’s World Cup in Brno, Czechia, which began on July 12th.

On Tuesday, July 15th, the Bagelry in Silver Spring will welcome a group of students with special needs for a unique and heartwarming experience. At 9:40 am, Steve, the owner of the Bagelry, will host eight middle school students, teaching them the art of making pizza bagels.

Montgomery County’s own Sydney Mednik has been recognized with the prestigious Billie Jean King Youth Leadership Award by ESPN. Sydney hails from Potomac, Maryland, and is set to begin her junior year at Winston Churchill High School this fall. A competitive soccer player, she has been a vital part of the Churchill Varsity Soccer Team since her freshman year and actively participates in club soccer.

In the heart of Montgomery County, a new wave of energy and excitement is taking over Monday evenings. Meet Sash Sujith, a Montgomery County native with a passion for dance and community, who is transforming the way adults in the area engage with the vibrant art of Bhangra. A former member of the University of Maryland’s competitive Bhangra team, Sash felt a void after graduation– a lack of spaces where adults could dance purely for fun and connection. This realization inspired the launch of MitranDe Bhangra Workshops in June.

Anabelle Jaffe dedicated more than 60 years of her life to Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) in Maryland. Now, at 103 years old and no longer working with the school system, she enjoys life at The Ring House in Rockville, as noted by community member Lisa Banos, who attended Wheaton High School when Jaffe was a guidance counselor there.

The community is mourning the sudden loss of Erik Gray Ledbetter, a beloved local park ranger who passed away on July 1, 2025 in the line of duty. A dedicated public servant and an individual of diverse passions, Ledbetter’s life was marked by a deep commitment to history, nature, and the many friendships he cultivated throughout his journey from his childhood in Cheverly to his impactful career in Maryland’s state parks– including his time at Seneca Creek State Park in Gaithersburg.
