The Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD), with assistance from the FBI, Interpol, and El Salvador National Police, arrested and extradited 58-year-old fugitive Jose Mauricio Rivera from El Salvador after over 27 years on the run; Rivera was wanted for attempted murder and assault in a 1997 Silver Spring shooting.

In the Circuit Court for Montgomery County, MD, Judge Harry Storm sentenced defendant, Jovan Ali, 45, of Fairfax, VA, to seven years in prison after he was convicted on one count of second-degree assault for an incident on April 17, 2024, when he stabbed a man. The incident was caught on video captured by a Montgomery County Police drone.
The Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD) is urging residents to plan ahead and avoid driving under the influence of alcohol or cannabis during the holiday season. Montgomery County Police have arrested Thanh Phan, 71, and Jose Saravia Gonzalez, 27, both of Silver Spring, on charges of criminally negligent manslaughter by vehicle related to a fatal pedestrian collision on April 5, 2024, that claimed the life of 52-year-old Ron Franzese.
