The Montgomery County community is rallying to support the family of Taeyon Malachi Prather, an 18-year-old Gaithersburg resident whose death is being investigated as a homicide. According to the Montgomery County Police Department, officers were called around 7:21 p.m. on Friday, January 2, to the 23600 block of Rolling Fork Way near Damascus after Fire and Rescue responded to a report of a person down and found Prather suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. During the week of December 31, 2025 through January 3, 2026, Montgomery County Police Department task force officers conducted 307 traffic stops, issued hundreds of citations and warnings, and arrested 28 individuals for driving under the influence, in addition to other alcohol-related enforcement actions. Multiple large-scale illegal car rallies were dismantled Friday night across Howard, Prince George’s, and Montgomery counties following a coordinated enforcement operation by the Maryland Car Rally Task Force and partner law enforcement agencies, according to Maryland State Police.

The operation began around 9 p.m. on Friday, January 2, and targeted public roads, industrial areas, and parking lots where illegal exhibition driving events were planned or underway. Police said high-visibility patrols and enforcement actions prevented crowds of up to 300 participants from engaging in dangerous driving behavior, disorderly conduct, and roadway shutdowns.
