The Washington Commanders’ linebacker corps is generating significant buzz ahead of the upcoming NFL season, with two of their key defensive players earning top honors from former NFL linebacker and current NFL Network analyst, Manti Te’o. The future of the Washington Commanders’ new stadium at the RFK campus in Washington, D.C., is moving forward with significant developments. The D.C. Council is set to vote on the RFK campus legislation on Friday, August 1, 2025, after reaching a “much-improved agreement” with the Commanders. This vote could pave the way for the team’s return to its historic home.

Yesterday, President Donald Trump shared on social media that the Washington Commanders should change the team name back to Redskins “IMMEDIATELY.” He followed that up by writing that he “may put a restriction on them that if they don’t change the name back to the original “Washington Redskins,” and get rid of the ridiculous moniker, “Washington Commanders,” I won’t make a deal for them to build a Stadium in Washington.” Today, DC Mayor Muriel Bowser answered questions about the the president’s threat.

The Washington Commanders officially dropped the “Redskins” moniker in 2020 amid public pressure and concerns that the name was offensive to Native Americans. They played as the Washington Football Team for two seasons before rebranding as the Washington Commanders in 2022. The current owner, Josh Harris, has stated there are no plans to revert to the old name, but that hasn’t stopped President Donald Trump from weighing in, stating this morning that a change back to Redskins should occur “IMMEDIATELY.”

Von Miller has signed with the Washington Commanders, according to Tom Pelissero. “Eight-time Pro Bowl OLB Von Miller is signing with the #Commanders, sources tell The Insiders. Miller has won Super Bowls with the #Broncos and #Rams. Now he’ll try to earn another ring in Washington.” Miller also broke the news on his Instagram account with the caption, “DC… What’s Good??”

In a recent article by ESPN, NFL executives, coaches, and scouts ranked the NFL’s top 10 quarterbacks for 2025. Washington Commanders’ rookie QB Jayden Daniels came in ranked 5th in the NFL, with ESPN writing “Daniels’ phenomenal rookie season demanded an appearance somewhere in the top 10. That he pushed his way into the top five, narrowly outdistancing Stafford in the voting, shows voters have no problem validating his hype.”
