Montgomery County, Maryland native Monica Blakely has a lot of titles of which she can be proud, from small business owner and philanthropist to mom and wife. Now, she can add “Commanders Fan of the Year” to the list. She is also up for NFL Fan of The Year, with voting available here.

A love for Washington football began with her dad who immigrated to the D.C metro area from Iran. Monica, an only child, found that the Burgundy & Gold was a special way of bonding with him. She set a goal of one day being able to afford season tickets and making sure her dad, who is disabled, always had a spot for home games.

Eight student teams on a mission to make a positive impact on society presented their startup ideas to a panel of expert judges during the Leonsis Family Entrepreneurship Prize “Bark Tank” Pitch Competition on Thursday, October 26, 2023, at Georgetown University’s McDonough School of Business, taking home $125,000 in prizes.

During the event, Georgetown Entrepreneurship also announced a transformational $5 million gift from Ted Leonsis (C’77, P’14,’15), founder, chairman, principal partner, and chief executive officer of Monumental Sports & Entertainment, and his family, to provide permanent support for the Bark Tank Pitch Competition, so that it exists at Georgetown in perpetuity. The gift also will establish the Leonsis Family Venture Development Program to support student startups, incubator programs, and other entrepreneurial programming across the university. Since Bark Tank’s inception, $975,000 in prizes have been awarded to 60 different ventures, and those ventures have gone on to raise more than $295 million and create over 1,000 jobs.

With a tough loss to the division-leading Philadelphia Eagles sending the Washington Commanders to 3-5 (0-3 in the division) and the trade deadline looming, it appears that the team will trade away at least one of their star players to prepare for what the new ownership group hopes will be a brighter future. With that said, let’s look at the top 10 players most likely to be traded by Washington this week:

10. Terry McLaurin: McLaurin signed a huge deal to remain with Washington prior to last season, but he will be 29 next year and may not be the same receiver by the time this team is built to compete. His cap number is $11 million this year but skyrockets to $24 million next year. With that said, he has consistently been the team’s best player, so we don’t think he’s going anywhere.

AT&T and Gallaudet University, the global leader in bilingual education for deaf and hard of hearing students, have collaborated to create the first 5G-connected football helmet—making the game more inclusive by enhancing on-field communication for student-athletes who use American Sign Language. The helmet was used for the first time in NCAA Division III competition during Gallaudet’s home game against Hilbert College, on Oct. 7.

”As a staple of college sports, we’re always exploring ways to use our expertise in connectivity to advance the way coaches, athletes and fans experience the game. When it came to developing the helmet, we saw an opportunity for 5G technology to make sports more inclusive—and there was no better partner to take possibility to reality than Gallaudet.” AT&T said in a press release.
