Orioles legend Brooks Robinson has passed. Considered one of the greatest third basemen in the history of baseball, Brooks Robinson traces his love of the sport to the Little Rock Boys & Girls Club. There he played Little League ball, honing the skills that would earn him 16 consecutive Golden Gloves, the 1964 American League MVP, the 1970 World Series MVP and a place in the Baseball Hall of Fame. Playing 23 seasons for the Baltimore Orioles, Robinson set major league career records for games, putouts, assists, chances, double plays and fielding percentage. Also a clutch hitter, he hit 268 career home runs, at the time an American League record for third basemen. A Statement from the Robinson Family and the Orioles:

“We are deeply saddened to share the news of the passing of Brooks Robinson. An integral part of our Orioles Family since 1955, he will continue to leave a lasting impact on our club, our community, and the sport of baseball.”

While with the Jets he had the best season of his career in terms of receptions, with 78 in 2019. Crowder stayed with the Jets until 2021 and played for the Bills last season. He provides quality receiver depth on the practice squad and has previous experience returning punts as well.

The Washington Commanders announced a $40 million investment in FedExField, funding significant upgrades to the stadium infrastructure and the overall fan experience. These upgrades include three new themed suites, new ticket scanning pedestals, point of sale upgrades, and updated Commanders branded imagery around the stadium, as well as maintenance repairs to the bowl and paint around the stadium.

“We have the best fans in football – and they deserve the best gameday experience. These upgrades to FedExField represent an immediate and tangible step to improve that experience, something our ownership group considers a top priority,” said Trista Langdon, Senior Vice President of Operations and Guest Experience. “Not only are we taking care of our fans, we’re also taking care of our house. Fans will continue to see improvements throughout the season as we continue to invest and make changes to everything from basic infrastructure to a re-imagined pregame ritual. We are excited for fans to come home and see all the changes on September 10.”

When ownership of the team changed hands earlier this month, many wondered is there was a chance the new ownership group would change the team’s name. Fuel was added to that fire when ESPN senior writer Don Van Natta Jr. stated on the Rich Eisen Show that “There’s a ‘pretty good chance’ the new ownership of the Washington Commanders will change the franchise name and have a ‘complete re-branding’ of the team.” Vegas has even released odds on the name-change happening and possibilities on what the new name could be (available below).

Today, Washington Commanders team President Jason Wright stated that the team would not be returning to its old name during an appearance on 106.7 The Fan. “It is not being considered. Period.” While it’s likely the team still undergoes a rebrand, the old name is not under consideration, according to Wright. Betting website BetOnline.AG has released odds on if the Commanders will change its name again and the odds on several choices for the team’s new name. They can be seen below:

Chick Hernandez, a 1981 Blair High School graduate, has announced that he will be joining WUSA9 as the network’s main sports anchor. Hernandez will take over for Darren Haynes who recently decided to accept a Sports Anchor position at KCBS/KCAL in Los Angeles after six years with WUSA9.

Earlier this year, it was announced that Chick Hernandez, would be joining former Washington players Brian Mitchell and Logan Paulsen as part of the new Preseason 2023 TV Crew. He has continued his work as part of the crew and will wrap up after next week’s final preseason game against Cincinnati Bengals.

Just a few days after the Commanders announced their deal to bring back Anheuser-Busch as the team’s official beer sponsor, today the Commanders uncorked a new multi-year partnership with Sire Spirits, owned and designed by award-winning musician, entrepreneur, philanthropist, and Emmy award-winning actor and director Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson.

As part of the partnership, Sire Spirits’ Branson Cognac will be the Official Cognac of the Washington Commanders, and Le Chemin Du Roi will be designated as the Official Champagne of the Washington Commanders. Jackson’s 501(c)(3) philanthropic arm, The G-Unity Foundation, will also work closely with the Washington Commanders Charitable Foundation, supporting expanded community initiatives across the DMV.

The Washington Commanders are under the control of Josh Harris and his ownership group, have officially named Sam Howell the starting quarterback, and look to end a 24-game preseason winning streak that the Baltimore Ravens are bringing into tonight’s 8pm game at FedEx Field.

After two joint practices between the local teams that have been described as “chippy” due to a few pushing and shoving matches, the teams will move things to a more official setting in tonight’s game. The Ravens haven’t lost a preseason game since 2015, a streak that doesn’t matter to many, but has brought along with it a little more interest to the team’s preseason games.
