Veteran Washington sports reporter Rick Snider passed away on Tuesday after suffering a stroke on August 11. Known for his extensive coverage of Washington DC sports teams, particularly the Washington Commanders (formerly the Washington Redskins), Snider was a longtime journalist who had been writing sports columns even in his final days.

Residents of Bethesda got a glimpse into the future of transportation recently, as a Waymo self-driving car was spotted charging at an EVgo station in the Westbard area. While Waymo, Google’s autonomous vehicle subsidiary, has publicly announced its plans to expand to the Washington DC market with a potential full launch in 2026, its presence in suburban Maryland suggests a more expansive regional strategy is already underway (video of the experience below).

DC Metro has the most escalators (and elevators) of any transit system in North America with a total of 674. Metro’s longest escalator is at the Wheaton station right here in Montgomery County. The 230 ft. escalator is the longest single span escalator in the entire western hemisphere (video below).

The Washington Commanders have locked up their premier offensive weapon, reaching an agreement on a three-year contract extension with star wide receiver Terry McLaurin. According to a report by The Athletic’s Dianna Russini, the deal is worth over $96 million, effectively making McLaurin one of the highest-paid wide receivers in the NFL.

In a significant move ahead of the 2025 NFL season, the San Francisco 49ers have reached an agreement to trade a 2026 6th round pick for Washington Commanders running back Brian Robinson Jr. The trade, pending a physical, was reported by NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo, who stated on social media that Robinson will join the 49ers’ backfield, adding “added punch” to their run-heavy offense.
