A Winter Storm Watch has been issued, in effect from Sunday evening through late Monday night. The National Weather Service (NWS) has also updated its projected snow totals to show 6-8” for a good portion of the area, with sprinkled in areas of 8-12”.

We are now within 72 hours and it still looks like we have pretty solid snow storm heading our way. I would expect a Winter Storm Watch to be issued this evening after the advisory ends at 7pm. A Winter Storm Warning then becomes very possible as we get closer to the event, which is expected to take place late Sunday and Monday.

While we’ve been focusing on the potential for a larger winter storm on Monday, there’s a chance for a quick burst of snow on Friday afternoon that could have an impact on the evening commute. A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for Frederick, Howard, and Carroll counties from 1pm-7pm on Friday.

The National Weather Service (NWS) stated on Thursday morning that “there is growing confidence that a storm will produce significant wintry weather beginning later this week. Impacts will begin in the Central Plains by late Saturday, the Ohio and Tennessee valleys on Sunday, and the Mid-Atlantic region early next week.” For our area, Sunday into Monday looks likely.
