According to the Transportation Security Administration (TSA), a Silver Spring woman was cited by police after officers at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport intercepted a gun among her carry-on items. The 9mm firearm was loaded with six bullets, including one in the chamber. (more…)


Montgomery Parks will temporarily close portions of Sligo Creek Parkway beginning on or about September 16, 2024, to allow for the construction of the Maryland Transit Administration’s (MTA) Purple Line Light Rail Project. During this time, the project team will place light rail tracks and reconstruct the intersection along Wayne Avenue at Sligo Creek Parkway, while Montgomery Parks incorporates other improvements to the roadway.

U.S. News & World Report released its list of 2024’s Top 500 Healthiest Communities with many local communities ranking in the top 100, including Montgomery County. Montgomery County was also recently listed as one of healthiest counties in Maryland and in the United States, according to the annual County Health Rankings (CHR).

While Maryland has various restaurants that offer amazing burgers, Eater DC had put together a list of “Outstanding Burgers to Try in D.C. Right Now” that includes three Maryland spots that are a little bit closer to the city. The other 17 are in the actual city, with no Virginia restaurants included on the list.

In March 2017, 17-year-old Christian Matthews was strangled in his family’s Silver Spring home during an attack by two men orchestrated by his older sister, Leaundra Matthews. One of the two men who killed Christian, Daniel “Ghost” Howard, 29, of Silver Spring, was sentenced today to 30 years in prison suspend all but 23 years to serve and five years of supervised probation upon release. Howard will receive credit for three  years served.
