Calling community members and would-be historians: local students need your help! The 2024 Montgomery County History Day competition is coming up on Saturday, March 9, and the competition is looking for judges.
Brian Fleury, a 1997 state championship winning quarterback at Seneca Valley, is in his fifth season with the San Francisco 49ers and second season as the team’s tight end coach. This is the second time he will be going to the Super Bowl as a member of the 49ers staff (see our post from 2020 below).
Following his graduation from Seneca Valley, Fleury began his collegiate career at Maryland before transferring to Towson, where he played quarterback for four years (1999-2002) and earned a degree in sports management from the school in 2002. He and his wife, Natasha, have one daughter, Nadia.
Several Juveniles Taken Into Custody After Report of Shots Fired Friday Afternoon Near Middle School
Montgomery County Police responded to a call for shots fired near Sligo Middle School (1401 Dennis Ave) in Silver Spring on Friday, February 9th at approximately 1:22 p.m.
Sligo Middle School in Silver Spring was placed on lockdown and a shelter-place-in place on Friday, February 9th due to police activity.

The Montgomery County Department of Transportation’s (MCDOT) is seeking submissions for its annual “Heads Up, Phones Down” high school PSA video contest. There is an $800 grand prize for the winning video. Submissions are being accepted now through Feb. 29.
Construction on the new Burtonsville Elementary School is scheduled to begin later this year. The project has been awarded to Consigli Construction Co., Inc., who will work alongside MTFA Architecture.
