MCPS has announced that Ms. Anuva Maloo, a junior at Montgomery Blair High School, has been elected as the Student Member of the Board of Education (SMOB) for the 2025-2026 school year. Ms. Maloo’s term begins on July 1, 2025.

On Wednesday at Seneca Valley High School, a reported sighting of what appeared to be a gun triggered an immediate response, according to a letter sent out to the school community. The incident began when a student observed another student with what was initially believed to be a firearm. In response, a Shelter-in-Place was initiated at 12:42 pm on Wednesday.
MCPS has shared that Richard Ensley, a first grade teacher at Diamond Elementary School in Gaithersburg, is this year’s winner of the Shirley J. Lowrie “Thank You for Teaching” Award. He won a $2,500 prize for being named the winner.
On April 22, The Washington Post announced the winners and finalists for its 2025 Principal and Teacher of the Year Awards. Detectives from the Community Engagement Division- Behavioral Assessment and Administrative Unit (BAAU) have charged a 17-year-old student after making threats against a Montgomery County Public School. The specific school was not named by the Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD).
