The Pitch’s Editor-in-Chief, senior Seyun Park, was named 2025 Maryland Student Journalist of the Year by the Maryland-D.C. Scholastic Press Association (MDCSPA) on March 4, making it the second year in a row that a WJ student has received this honor. Park will be recognized for his achievement at the University of Maryland’s J-Day Conference on April 4 and will go on to compete in the National Journalism Education Association (JEA) Student Journalist of the Year competition as Maryland’s representative.


MCPS has announced that the Montgomery County Board of Education has named three student finalists for its Student Service Award. The finalists are: German Diaz-Peña, a senior at Rockville High School, Samantha (Sam) Ross, a senior at Montgomery Blair High School, and Kylie Zhang, a sophomore at Poolesville High School.

Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) will overhaul its grading policy for the 2025-2026 school year, according to internal documents. Superintendent of Schools Thomas Taylor is set to present these proposed changes to the Board of Education at its regular business meeting this afternoon, April 10.


According to a report by FOX 5, a Potomac Elementary School student was found with a list of individuals “they thought should be harmed” on Tuesday, April 8, prompting an immediate investigation by school officials, Montgomery County Police, and MCPS security staff. (more…)


Montgomery Village, MD native and University of Maryland standout Kaden Prather took a significant step toward his NFL aspirations this week, participating in the Washington Commanders’ local pro day on Tuesday. The Terrapins wide receiver, a product of Germantown’s Northwest High School, brings a decorated college resume and hometown pride to the draft process.

A group of innovative student developers is taking a stand for student health and safety in Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) with their new platform, Ripple. Led by Eric Huang of Poolesville High School and his fellow classmates Pranav Karthikeyan and Krish Putta from Poolesville, alongside Mehul Jasti from Clarksburg, the team is on a mission to address the maintenance issues that have long affected the daily lives of students throughout the district.
