Montgomery County Public Schools, in partnership with the Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory, recognized regional winners of the Math, Engineering, and Science Achievement (MESA) program, where students showcased innovative projects addressing societal concerns. At Hallie Wells Middle School in Clarksburg, a compassionate initiative known as the Care Closet is making a significant impact on students’ lives. Conceived in 2021 by parent Mrs. Sonal Purohit, who was then the PTSA president, the Care Closet was designed to provide essential everyday items to students who may not have access to them. Dr. Carla McNeal, the principal of Hallie Wells, highlights the importance of this resource in fostering a supportive school environment.

FOX5’s Homa Bash reported that Magruder High School in Derwood recently faced a significant disruption when a portion of the auditorium ceiling fell during a spring musical production of “Once Upon a Mattress.” Despite the alarming incident the show continued with a brief pause, but it did raise urgent safety concerns regarding the aging infrastructure of the nearly 55-year-old school.

In a collaborative effort with Monumental Sports and Entertainment, Brooke Grove Elementary School is currently embarking on an exciting project to celebrate the Washington Capitals hockey team’s 50th anniversary. The initiative invited fourth graders to participate in a student-led music video experience, where they would help write a song honoring the team’s historic milestone.
