Updated to include statement of charges

The Rockville City Police Department has announced that charges have been filed against Ritchie Park Elementary School Principal Andrew Winter for a February incident involving a student.


Mackie’s Barbecue Co., a locally owned and operated restaurant with locations in Olney (full-service), Potomac (catering and delivery apps), Gaithersburg (catering and delivery apps), Frederick (full service), and Clarksburg (food truck), has decided to step up and offer a meal on the house for any teacher and their family who may be affected by potential MCPS cuts.

According to a recent statement by MCEA, MCPS Chief of Staff Pete Moran sent the following email to MCPS principals highlighting several key points that relate to the identification of schools that will receive a staffing reduction and the timeline that will need to be implemented. More than 20 MCPS middle school students were recognized during the annual Mosaic, Celebrating Diversity through Creative Writing Awards Ceremony on May 22. The writing contest for middle school students was sponsored by Friends of the Library, Montgomery County. Entries were essays, short stories or poems and allowed students to express their personal reflections on diversity and culture. Winners can be seen below:

Thanks to the generosity of hundreds of people in the community during the 2023-2024 campaign, MCPS provided more than 10,000 students in need with backpacks and supplies through the GIVE BACKpacks campaign. Now, the 13th annual GIVE BACKpacks campaign to purchase backpacks and school supplies for MCPS students has begun.
