More than 950 middle and high school students attended the 13th Annual Intra-County Minority Scholars Program (MSP) retreat earlier this month at John F. Kennedy High School.
A high school freshman has won a top prize in this year’s C-SPAN 2024 Student-Cam documentary competition. Dermott Foley, a 9th grader at Montgomery Blair High School in Silver Spring, won $3,000 as a first-place winner for his documentary, “The Promise of Langley Park: The Purple Line, Climate Change and Reimagining the Future of America’s Suburbs.”
High school summer school registration will begin on Friday, March 22. Regional Summer High School Programs will be offered in-person at Montgomery Blair, Seneca Valley and Richard Montgomery high schools. Classes begin at 8 a.m. and end at 12:30 p.m.
Just before the start of spring break, students at Rolling Terrace Elementary in Takoma Park were treated to an exciting surprise when three NASA astronauts paid a visit to their school to share their experiences in space.

Rachel Chavkin, a stage director perhaps best known for directing the musicals Natasha, Pierre, & The Great Comet of 1812 and Hadestown, was recently honored by having 48th St. in New York renamed Chavkin Way on March 20th. She is a 1998 graduate of John F. Kennedy High School in Silver Spring.

Four MCPS students have been named Carson Scholars, earning $1,000 college scholarships. Carson Scholars are students in grades 4-11 who excel academically and donate their time and talents to others.
A total of 152 MCPS educators and counselors achieved National Board Certification in December 2023. Another 73 successfully maintained their certifications (full list linked below).
