Sandy Spring Friends School has announced the arrival of Dr. Sean Hamer as its new Head of School, marking the start of his leadership as the school enters its 64th year. In April, Sandy Spring Friends School announced it will remain open following a $15 million pledge from the Friends of Sandy Spring coalition after initially announcing its closure.

On June 27, 2025, the U.S. Supreme Court issued a significant ruling in Mahmoud v. Taylor (24–297) that has set the stage for a considerable shift in how Montgomery County Public Schools manage their curriculum. In a 6-3 decision, the Court held that parents challenging the school board’s introduction of “LGBTQ+-inclusive” storybooks without prior parental notification or the option to opt their children out are entitled to a preliminary injunction.

3M and Discovery Education have announced the 2025 3M Young Scientist Challenge winners, selecting 32 state merit winners along with four honorable mention recipients. Among those recognized is Vishagan Aranganathan of Montgomery County. Vishagan, a Kingsview Middle School graduate from Germantown, will be starting his freshman year at Northwest High School in Germantown this fall.
Known as the nation’s premier middle school science competition, the 3M Young Scientist Challenge celebrates exemplary innovations from young scientists that highlight how science can improve the world. Designed for students in grades 5–8, the competition invites participants to submit brief videos outlining their creative solutions to everyday problems. Judges evaluate each entry based on creativity, scientific knowledge, and communication skills.
