MCPS welcomed 42 educators from the Philippines as part of the district’s cultural exchange program on Friday morning. MCPS shared the news on Friday.
The Office of the Inspector General (OIG) recently concluded an investigation into Montgomery County Public Schools’ (MCPS) management of a contract valued at over $160 million to acquire and operate 326 electric school buses. The investigation substantiated that all of the buses received during fiscal years (FYs) 2022-2024 were delivered beyond the contractually required delivery date.
With early education shown to boost future earning potential but few states offering free preschool programs, the personal-finance website WalletHub today released its report on 2024’s States with the Best & Worst Early Education Systems, and Maryland came in at #4 in the country.
Montgomery College announced earlier this month that 820 Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) students are participating in Montgomery Can Code camps. Montgomery Can Code is a “unique and innovative public-private partnership formed by Montgomery College, MCPS and the Montgomery County Economic Development Corporation (MCEDC)—in collaboration with Apple” that offers middle school students in Montgomery County an opportunity to learn computer coding. Rising Senior Myla Leung (Churchill HS) has started The Climate Health Education Initiative (CHEI)– an international organization that aims to inspire and empower youth to achieve sustainability and understand the intersection between climate change and planetary health concepts through their environmental educational programs. Myla currently runs the organization with fellow rising seniors Michelle Zhao (Churchill HS) and Sophia Ge (Blair HS).
Seneca Valley High School in Germantown recently celebrated its 50th anniversary with a block party. MCPS shared that the event consisted of “fun, games, and community support.”
Manmitha Jinasena (Moni), a rising sophomore at Seneca Valley High School, represented Maryland and won a Silver medal for Kata at the USA Karate Nationals! Her journey began in Sri Lanka at just 8-years-old and she has dreams of joining the National team, MCPS recently shared.
