With students returning to school on Monday, August 26th, we wanted to share some important dates to remember in August and September for Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS). They can be seen below:
Education
The Association of Vietnamese Americans awarded $1,000 scholarships at the Annual Academic Awards Ceremony held earlier this summer to two Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) students for their excellence in academic performance, leadership skills, and community involvement.
Construction is complete at Neelsville Middle School, located at 11700 Neelsville Church Rd in Germantown, with students ready to return to school on Monday.
MCPS has sent out its ‘Things to Know’ message to the community for Thursday, August 22. It can be seen in full below:
160,000 students will be heading back to school on Monday and more than 900 teachers having been hired by MCPS ahead of this school year. In its staff billetin, the school system also shared that there are 43 new principals (or new to their school). A list of the principals, along with an interesting fact about them, can be seen below, per MCPS:

At today’s Board of Education meeting, the authorization will be requested to receive and expend, subject to County Council approval, a Fiscal Year 2025 supplemental appropriation of $2,000,000 for Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) to install vape detectors at each high school.

MCPS is hosting its annual Back-to-School Fair on Saturday, Aug. 24 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Westfield Wheaton mall, located at 11160 Veirs Mill Road. (more…)
