Natasha Rothwell, a native of Waldorf, Maryland, has received a 2025 Emmy nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series for her acclaimed role as Belinda Lindsey in the third season of HBO’s “The White Lotus.”

CBS has announced that “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” will end its run in May 2026, and that the “Late Show” franchise itself will be retired at that time. Colbert was born in DC and spent some of his early years in Bethesda, right here in Montgomery County (video clip below shows him bringing up his time in the area).

Jim Morrison was the lead singer of the rock band The Doors, who passed away at the age of 27 in 1971. Morrison is widely regarded as one of the “best singers” of all time”, coming in at #5 on Rolling Stone magazines “Best Lead Singers of All Time” list in 2011 and at #47 on the magazines “Best Singers of All Time” list, but did you know he also briefly lived in Montgomery County as a child?

Morrison was born in Florida in 1943. Due to his father being in the military, the family moved around a lot and briefly lived in Bethesda when Morrison was a toddler (photo below courtesy of the Bethesda Historical Society Facebook page

Terry Crews’ professional football career, spanning from 1991 to 1996, laid the foundation for his eventual transition into Hollywood stardom. Chris Carmack’s roots in Montgomery County run deep. Growing up in Derwood, MD, and graduating from Magruder in the late ‘90s, Chris was immersed in the local spirit and community from an early age. While he once played baseball, basketball, and football, his passion eventually shifted to theater. Active in his school’s drama program, he participated in multiple productions each year and competed at various drama festivals– a foundation that would later pave the way for his acting career and now his social media stardom.

Fleetwood Mac’s iconic song “Silver Springs” has a direct and interesting connection to Silver Spring– right here in Montgomery County, Maryland. While many fans appreciate Stevie Nicks’ music and the song itself, its title often contributes to the common mistake of adding an ‘s’ to the end of the Maryland location’s name.

According to Variety, Maryland native Jon Bernthal will reprise his role as Frank Castle, aka The Punisher, in Sony and Marvel’s upcoming film Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Bernthal first took on the role in Netflix’s Daredevil and later starred in The Punisher. He recently returned in Daredevil: Born Again and is set to headline a 2026 Disney+ special directed by Reinaldo Marcus Green. (more…)
