The City of Gaithersburg has announced it has received a 100 score on the 2024 Municipal Equality Index, which evaluates cities on LGBTQ+ inclusivity in laws, municipal services, and leadership, maintaining its score from 2023.

The Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD) has announced that a 45-year-old Gaithersburg man has been arrested and charged with Negligent Manslaughter by Vehicle for a fatal July 20 collision on North Frederick Avenue, where he was speeding at nearly 98 mph and driving with a blood alcohol level almost twice the legal limit, resulting in the death of 39-year-old Isaac Akomanyi of Germantown.

Melissa Curtis, 32, of Upper Marlboro, was sentenced to 30 years in prison, suspending all but 12 months, and five years of supervised probation after pleading guilty to three counts of third-degree sex offense for abusing a 14-year-old student while teaching at Montgomery Village Middle School in 2015.
